Very unlucky. Hopefully, it will be 15 winners next year (or maybe Goodwood if that is too long to wait).

I know we all get runs like this, but it would be interesting to know how profitable we would all be if we could back our horses to be second or to finish one place outside of whatever the ew place terms are.

I had a pretty bad week, worst I can ever recall at a big meeting, so second sounds quite good. You are obviously doing something right, so stick with it.
 
I too had what I consider a poor meeting - 9 winners but all short priced so a bit obvious. Last year I had 17 I think or 14 but a couple of real long shots including Rashabar at 80-1 so that's what I consider a good week. My accounts have taken a bit of a battering this week - I usually have 2-3 in each of the handicaps or bigger field races so it all adds up.

But as above - that's sometimes how it goes. I felt my brain was completely fried on Friday and I got pretty stressy (which is a ridiculous thing to be over what should be a pleasurable week) but I think much of that was to do with the oppressive heat and too much screen time.
 
I've actually ended up down overall on the meeting now that I've trawled through the balances on the accounts. The amount probably is less than what I threw away in doubles and other multiples. The other day one race beat me for that mega placepot dividend which was especially annoying as I'd backed the longshot runner-up in an ew single on the day but I'd reckoned I was overplaying it when I saw how much the perm was working out at and I removed two selections to cut the numbers back down. One was a good decision, this one wasn't. Such is punting.

I can't say I enjoyed it all too much this year despite managing to maintain a 48-hour lead on the races as far as studying them was concerned but it meant I was studying through the afternoon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so missed all the in-between analyses and paddock stuff.

Another factor, for me, was the general substandard quality at the top end. Field Of Gold looked a standout but I'm starting to wonder if the form will actually amount to a great deal, not that I will contemplate opposing it going forward.

At least things will be generally quieter until the July Meeting and I did manage to catch up a little on my lost sleep last night.
 
I should also add maybe that if the Appleby horses had run their races I'd have finished the week very nicely in front. I had Cinderella's Dream and Rebel's Romance in an early/ante-post treble with Trawlerman but didn't back the doubles. That treble alone would have covered me for the week.
 
I only struck bets on Friday and Saturday and finished marginally in front.
The two free bets I struck yesterday summed up my day.
£10 free bet placed on Seraph Gabriel at 100/30 who was mugged on the line.
£1 free bet placed on Get It at 25/1.
Woke up this morning to my late father's favourite racing maxim ringing in my ears:
Bigger the price bigger the bet son!!!!!!!
 
Probably the best week I’ve ever had, betting wise. Having had a rotten couple of weeks; bad knee reaching the point of needing replacement, blocked sewage drain and then furniture beetle infestation, I only had time to quickly go through the runners before each race, read the comments and listen to WHill radio paddock picks and a couple of ‘in running’ bets: one won and one came second. I only did my little system on one race which highlighted the actual winner, although it was the favourite. Thoroughly enjoyed the racing itself, with there being no overall domination by one trainer etc. I must admit that I enjoyed it far more than Cheltenham.

What an excellent open and honest post this is.
 
I had 5/6 in the jackpot the one day.
I haven't checked yet but I should be up thanks to Docklands and taking 16/1 Arabian story.
But sat here with money in my accounts I do tend to do stupid bets and throwing money away.
 
Poor meeting, though I lost little, with 45 /1 + 50 /1 shots in the frame.
Nowhere near picking a winner + my judgement took a battering on a tough week.

Looks like I did more stupid bets than I thought as I was well down on the week.
But an exciting week all the same.
 
Fux sake I logged onto the Tote to watch the Prix de Ris-Orangis and felt Beauvatier was a bettable price (the Fav Tribalist's form is all over further than 6 plus he had a penalty) and placed a bet. Now, the only time I use the Tote is for the odd placepot at big meetings and sometimes swingers when I fancy two in the same race at decent odds - I never usually do singles basically. Turns out my bet was only in the place market. Nightmare.
 
Thank goodness someone did! I looked at Serengeti because I’d been talking about a documentary called The Serengeti Rules. Then I looked at Quirat when I read that he’d been supplemented for£70,000 ( albeit knowing he was meant to be a pacemaker).And I often put my threepenny bets on complete outsiders. But didn’t! To add insult to injury I didn’t back Bamburgh in a later race even though Mike lives there ( at least he wasn’t 150/1…).

Well done Simmo and I almost joined you.
I looked at its price then the ew price then 3 places which he was only 11/1 so I went back to win and the race started so I missed out.
