Aintree - friday

It's typical that I should mention Peter Bowen's long losing run on the day that it comes to an end!

Well done with Always Waining, BigRob

Physically he stood out amongst his peers just as Sprinter Sacre did in the Supreme last year. he's got a huge shoulder on him. His jumping was ok in the main but he made one mistake and he did sky a couple at least. They went a decent gallop and I just thought he was outstayed by a slower horse who had the advantage of coming from behind. He just looks the type who'll excel over the fences and gain ground at them which he didn't at the hurdles today.

I didn't get the benefit of seeing him in the flesh but I thought he was disappointing. He didn't travel with any fluency, on and off the bit, and I would have liked to have seen him drop Lovecen so that one had no chance rounding the home turn. The King horse never got on terms at Cheltenham but, although pushed along, was always within striking distance today.

I must admit I struggle to get excited about him. I was waxing lyrical about Simonsig after Sandown because he just looked a much better horse for 99% of the race. I can't quite work Fingal Bay out.
