Aintree - Other Races

The RTV pundits were clearly on Bob Olinger to a man!

Not sure what the current guidelines are but Skelton never stopped riding Langer Dan and there was no contact between him and IEP. Potentially, Langer Dan was intimidated but he wasn't impeded so I understand IEP keeping the race. Pretty sure he was the best horse of the trio.

Away for the next few days for Mrs Grass’s birthday, so some speculations this evening, to keep the dream alive whilst we’re walking the dog in knee-deep mud round Loch Tay tomorrow.

13:45 - Heart Wood. Handicapped to go close regardless, come here relatively fresh, and I instinctively want to oppose Kim Muir winners who have been handed an extra stone or so.

14:20 - Champagne Twist. Successfully distracting handicapper with jangling keys. 131 won’t stop him. Confident selection in a hot race.

15:30 - Easy Game. Possibly the most overlooked horse in training. Rated right up there but price suggests he is a no hoper. Recent form at the trip practically faultless, and comes here fresh. Great ew bet, imo.

The Melling Chase is always a good race and reads like a who's who of winners.

Nicky Henderson has worked his magic and somehow managed to win 7 chases with Jonbon
I reckon he may lack the class to win this.

Pic D'Orhy did me a big favour last time and won the race last year so deserting him is difficult

Protektorat 7/2+ for me is a top class chaser who ever since he won the Betfair Chase has been running at the wrong trip.

His win in the Ryanair stands out here and is my Nap of the meeting

Jonbon is untried at the trip and the opposition is bordering on Gold Cup class horses who will definitely stay.

I’m taking the (probably erroneous) view that - Ballyburn apart - most of the 2m novice hurdlers are wankers, and on that basis, I’m happy to oppose the front of the market in the Top Novices tomorrow.

As it happens, I’m also happy to oppose the middle of the market as a collection of additional wankers, and instead have had a small each-way bet on the outer of the party; namely Ben Pauling’s Personal Ambition (general 50/1).

The selection might also turn out to be a wanker too, but at least it’s a cheap option to establish.

NB: Drink may have been taken this evening, so caveat emptor and all that.  :D

Ballee won by half the track at Taunton twice then went of favourite at Chepstow but only got as far as the second...

He's currently 25/1 with WH and 30-35 on the exchanges....The media are criticising his jockey who is 1 for 37 but has been placed 11 times so he can't be that bad or Hobbs wouldn't be using him.

Horse obviously has ability so no harm in having a fiver EW,

2.20 is as tough as they come. The dogs are barking Making Headway.......but I'm not that brave so I am dutching him with Champagne Twist and Jango Baie to try and more than double my stake.

The Jukebox Man looks set for a win if he has gotten over his Cheltenham exploits

Geezus. If I had been given a ticket with my bet on Iknowthewayurthinkin I would have thrown it away after the 3rd last.

just about everything was travelling better than him and no way IMO could he win.......then from somewhere he found Turbo.

Amazing horse

Nicky Henderson's Jango Baie would have gone very close had he not been hampered and lost ground 2 out.....horses are running well but Surely Jonbon 5/4 is the worst value of the entire meeting?

I'm wondering if the old boy Chantry House is starting to look well handicapped for the staying handicap hurdle on Saturday at 1:20.

Nicky Henderson's got plenty entered for Aintree. Chantry House is a horse who was a talented novice chaser, but lost his way after being pulled up in the Gold Cup. Clearly fences aren't for him anymore, but there's been glimmers of light in handicap hurdles this year. That third place behind Buddy One has been franked, and he was giving Buddy 7lbs in weight that day. Chantry won't be carrying anywhere near 12 stone if he runs on Saturday. He's dropped another couple of pounds in the handicap and the less weight he carries the better for him. This a horse who was third in Shiskin's soft ground Supreme Novices Hurdle, and it doesn't look like Chantry House has lost a leg since then either. If anything he's getting handicapped to run well in a race like this. Sometimes it really does bode well to have a bit of back form in graded races, just look at Monmiral at the festival, with his graded novice hurdle form. Chantry House an each way squeak then, if he turns up in good order.

Shortening up a wee bit now. I hope he runs well.

Taken Mr Incredible, Mahler Mission and one of the rank outsiders, Eldorado Allen in the Grand National.

Good luck everyone.

Unlucky Tan. At least you picked horses that ran well. Especially Ballee off top weight. He must be a horse to keep on side for another day.

I am all over Brighterdaysahead like a rash I reckon she could be very good and could have a stone in had of this lot.

I have never been a fan of Flooring Porter but he could actually win today so I have backed him for the very first time.

I also double Brighterdaysahead with Found A Fifty

Crambo hated the course at Cheltenham and will prefer this flatter track. He could be value at 9/1 to resume his progression here

Bold Endeavour ran a cracker at Cheleltenham..5/4 to be in first 7 appeals to me

missed it were off as I was having my 5 quid on :0(

You gotta get the big bucks on when the opportunity arises...........I doubt if a stone would bring them together...different class not 1 seconds doubt :)
