Anyone Help?

Just had a thought Julie - the horse I used to show ( got a 7th at the Bath and West with him) is a 15.1 heavy coloured cob - probably a hairy again by now, but a gelding might be looking for a new home - hes not done a massive amount since I stopped with him -theyve had him out on loan twice, but he keeps breaking out of the places hes lived at, i think its a companion thing. He needs someone experienced - hes most definately not a novice ride ( so much so that the Judge ot the B&W got off him and said "crickey, you make him look easy!") - if you possibly could be interested, I could get in touch with them - hes a sweetheart if hes worked properly (ie daily!!) not many miles on the clock (dont ask him to jump though - we were politely asked to vacate a clear round ring once, as we had broken 4 jumps.....) But i know hes probably not what youd want as hews a he.....

  Sounds good to me, Julie - think of the fuel you'll save just letting this chap tank you down to Hampshire to see the foals being born! And any obstacles in the way are, er, no obstacle - Bertie the Bulldozer will just smash 'em out the way!

Troodles - sounds like a mighty interesting ride to me! "Asked to vacate... "

Well, I'm off tomorrow to look at a very promising cob mare (in Luton... :o ) which has been highly recommended - kindly via Kirsty - and I've seen several photos of her.

Put it like this, unless I see something drastically wrong with her that they haven't 'fessed up about, I'm taking the money with me and Alan Walters Horse Transport will have a pick up to do on the way back from Donny or Newmarket!!

I'll let you all know how it goes tomorrow night. Thank you very much everyone who has offered to help - all sound advice and if the mare tomorrow isn't 'The One', then I shall be asking Soba to put me in touch with her mate!!

The only horrifying part of all this is I put my old Jods on just now and it was so not an attractive sight  Am now off to Sainsbugs to buy loads of fruit, yoghurt and low-cal meals and will have to go to back to joggling round the lanes - aaaaggghhhh.....

Excellent, Jules - hope she's all you're after. Dont worry, after the 2nd or 3rd wearing, the paranoia of wearing the breeches goes out of the window!!! Well, nearly......

I've got the task of keeping ponies sane at the moment - it's hysterical. A friend of mine runs the "Poni Club" at the Escuela De Arte Equestre at Estepona; she has asked me to go to as often as I can (after work if I can!!! Which I can't - border queues disallow) to keep her ponies going. They are great little ponies - not at all the dobbins that you get in the UK, they are sharp & fit. Trouble is, they are so sharo & fit that if they have a day off they can't let the kids get on them without their backs being got down first! With the smaller ponies, they tack them up, knot the reins behind the saddle, take them into the school & kind of loose school them by getting them galloping around for 20 mins..... The instructors tend to have to ride the bigger ponies so Julia has asked me to take over the privilege! It is funny, riding 13hh ponies that are trying to cock their jaw & bolt with you, or buck with you, is very funny & great entertainment! Off for more of it on Tues :D

Well, the mission was successful - I loved her from the word 'Go' and I think you'll understand why from the pictures! Hopefully she'll be collected by AW Horse Transport on their way back from Donny either tomorrow or Wednesday and will I shall be hacking out this weekend. She's a real schmoozer, adores people and I even saw her jumping...

I will also no doubt be crippled by Monday!!

Below are a couple of photos taken of her last summer, being shown by a young teenage friend of the owners.

Many, many thanks to Kirsty for starting this particular ball rolling!

Crikey Jules, she's lovely!! A right flashy looker - looks to move well too. I'm sure she'll be alovely shade of yellow soon enough mind!

Great news that you've got her, hope you have a lot of fun with her.

She's be pink - not yellow - round here!

Her stable name is Maggie and she's register with CHAPS as Partly Cloudy (Blue Tobiano)...

Now you know why Kirsty was so insistent that I go and see her! Quite right too - I could have looked for months and not find anything better - I think I've been really lucky to find her and it was worth the 400 mile round trip!

Jules - I suggest you have a Spring Open Day, when visiting forumites can be legged up for 10 minutes apiece for £1 towards the Cob Preservation Society (that's you, but no-one will know)! I know if I'm legged up, Maggie herself will be charging a tenner a minute for the extra exertion! She's built like the proverbial outhouse, isn't she? Your hills 'n' dales will soon build up those gaskins - and hers, too!

She's lovely Songsheet, a real stunner. Just the right time to purchase as well, with the days getting longer and hopefully the weather starting to improve.

Enjoy! :)

Thanks everyone for all your kind wishes and help - just shows that this forum is a good place!

I really am very fortunate to have found her so quickly and as Kathy says, at just the right time of year!

Will indeed post some pictures of her when she's settled in (and a delicate Rose colour) and hopefully BLACK DRAFT will be very pleased with his new field mate, as the poor chap has had to be turned out on his own this winter.

Aww shes gorgeous.

I was going to add that, after last weekend, if she hadn't worked out you could have mine, for nothing! In fact the way my bruises are feeling i'd have paid for the transport!!!

She decided she wasn't going to cross the beck (more like a puddle) and knocked me flying before jumping on me, and now i've got a rather attractive purple 14.2hh cob sized bruise on my back.

On the matter of horses !! I was reading/trawling the TELETEX and on page 345 (THE WEST) and in MARTOCK in your neck of the woods Julie.... I know its a little way away from you??? ... horse thieves have stolen a pink and white mare worth £7K… 11 hands high.....so be on your guard................ :teeth: :teeth:

Am pleased to report that Her Ladyship arrived a couple of hours ago, marched into her new stable, aimed for her hay, started eating, glanced up at her next-door-neighbour (BLACK DRAFT), proceded to ignore him (much to his disgust), accepted all the fussing over her as her rightful dues, didn't even speak to the rest of the gang when they were brought in (although Bonny [CARNIVAL DANCER/REACH THE WIND] stood in the middle of the yard gawping at the sight of a grey horse) and then stood quietly when my farrier called in to replace a front she'd lost on Wednesday.

So I've now seen her caught, loaded, clipped, rugged up and shod - so far, so good!!

We need photos of Julie astride her grey mare, upalong, downalong, backalong... wheeeeeeeeee!

I bet darling Bonny thought she was seeing a ghost! :o

The first time Po saw a coloured pony he was rooted to the spot for a good ten minutes staring not unlike  ....

Mind you - this is the horse who was so traumatised by me changing his bedding from shavings to paper he stood in his doorway for half an hour huffing at it and ruinning backwards cos with every huff the paper flew in the air....

Very well thanks Dom I had a text from Ben last monday - he lost a lot of weight and got very depressed because he was being bullied by a Welsh sec D, but they got rid of that, and hes fine now!(and no doubt convinced of his obvious supremecy over all the smaller horses there now!!!) hopefully he will be out and about in the Summer - hes come on in leaps and bounds, and Im hoping to visit when Ben takes him to some shows..... B)
