AP McCoy The Legend

Running GV in the Gold Cup might have been questionable, Luke, but there was nothing wrong with the ride.

GV was only about a half-length down when he hit the deck two out (narrowly headed at the time), so I'm forced to disagree with you.

I think a few horses would have liked to have killed him

I have a theory that horses are cleverer than they let on. How come he was dumped at a fence in a few big races? Horse was thinking "slap me one more time you miserable cnt and you just wait for the big day"

Anyone think he'll beat his 289 mark this season. Currently on 113. Think I saw 4/1 on him reaching 300 for the season. Any takers?

It's 4/1 with Lads. I'm tempted as he's almost 20 winners ahead of the 2001/02 season when ending with 289. That season Martin Pipe was supplying a steady flow of winners but AP is firing them in for several yards this time (Jonjo the main provider). He'll need to stay injury free and avoid lengthy bans as well as Jonjo avoiding any viruses but I think 4s is a good price

Keep your money in your pocket mate it would be virtually impossible to ride 300 winners .........no Martin Pipes around dominating and too many good trainers and Jockeys sharing the spoils these days

He is on a very high strike rate of over 30% but Jonjo has periods every season when he runs everything that needs a run and rests others. You could call it a virus or call it a shrewd little Irish fella who knows exactly what he's doing....either way that strike rate will drop dramatically.

He's getting the cream of the summer runners but that will change when the real season takes off and competition becomes tougher.

He usually ends up on around 25%

A big negative is he'd have to ride approx 1200 horses and he's never came close to doing that in the last 5 years if ever

Even if he ended up on a 28% strike rate that's still a lot of rides and a day off would be out of the question.

Should be 40/1 not 4/1

I think you're right that 300 is likely to be out of reach as the racing will get more competitive but I'm sure there's plenty who would snap up 40/1 if you were prepared to lay that!

Can I think about it until 2 days before the end of the season:D

An interesting situation regarding AP in the 3.10 today.

Interesting is an understatement

Someone knew Best's other runner wasn't going to run as the gamble took place well before AP's original mount was pulled out.

The stewards can't say a word about improved form if St Helena wins because she hasn't run for 125 days plus her best form has been on fast ground. Best has been running her mostly on soft ground.

The Stewards may beg the question why they withdrew a horse that has run well on fast ground before but Best will have an answer ready......"Not on my watch and never over hurdles".

The Stewards will need to get out of bed a lot earlier to get one over on Mr. Best.

No doubt some punters who haven't backed the horse will whinge if it does win but personally I hope they pull it off as they haven't really broken any rules.........You can assume Best never intended to run Into the Wind and set out to fool us/the bookies but the evidence is circumstantial so my advice is have a few quid on sit back and enjoy them beating the bookies if they can.

you'd lose then over a series of bets

think about it..they thought this horse had lbs in..it hadn't..it just won against a poor field..was under pressure from a long way out...so wasn't a 5/4 shot..it was only that because they thought it had lbs in hand

on top of that the sire is a massive 4% with jumpers...not my idea of 5/4..but..its easy to come on afterwards and say it was..different before the race

i'm surprised McCoy tarnishes himself by getting near this sort of stuff..he's still great though:)

Jim Best just told the Stewards exactly what I said he would...........been referred to the BHA but they'll do nothing

no, they just going through the motions

i wouldn't have minded if it was a shrewd effort..but it was so obvious..so obvious that it will just push people into other areas of betting away from racing..a very poor carry on..certainly nothing to admire has happened here imo..about as subtle as a sledgehammer
