Ascot Take Outs Day 5

Ahaha I'd wait four hours between races if I was onto a winner but I struggled last week, me being me, trying to back longshots for the most part. Of course a few did come up, but henceforth I wasn't on them. The length between races prolonged my frustration.

Onwards and upwards though. A new day is a new start, 😂.

I've just found out Prydwen is a non runner in the Pitman's Derby.

Thanks George Scott, I'll take all the help I can get...

This although I’d say it’s boredom inducing
It may well be boring for those of you not involved but spare a thought for those with runners there. A half hour is short amount of time especially if you are in back to back races and are a small outfit. We have half hours between point to point races and it is very tight. If the jockey comes in, unsaddles, has to weigh out again, the trainer who whoever responsible has to take the saddle and go and saddle the horse in the next race. If the stables (or with pointing the lorry park) is not close by, you try doing all that within 30 minutes especially if you have a tricky horse to saddle who may need blinkers and or a tongue tie. It's a very close thing to get it to the paddock in time and if you don't you are facing a fine.

Quite right. And spare a thought also for the laptop brigade trying to keep their bots from running amok while five separate meetings are going on. Reduce the intervals between races and their world will collapse.

I just don't think a seventh race each day was necessary - its not for anyone's benefit except the World Pool .

They'd always claim it offered extra value for money. "Buy six races, get one free."

Or an excuse for charging more money.

Plus pandering to the bookmakers and World Pool.

Yes, I want to get a closer look at the form before going near that kind of figure.

then again, TF tend to be 3-5lbs higher than mine.

I really never know what to make of those lists. Ombudsman will need to back it up on Saturday to convince me.
Similar to how I felt regards mostadhaf. Got a ridiculously high rating from winning the pow and was duly stuffed by auguste rodin in the breeders Cup turf. Not sure how jan brugheul isn't either up with calandagan or ahead after the coronation Cup. Too many ratings are built round narratives and not cold figures imho. Whirl at 119p an accurate figure to my mind and puts her in the mix for all the 10f group ones.

I gave Mostadhaf a big mention (28/1) ahead of the POW because of the collateral form of his Middle-East races in the spring. The POW merely backed that up.

Whatever happened in the US it wasn't his true form.

I'm finding it very hard not to be very positive about Ombudsman.

He's given the 123 runner-up a 4lbs beating, going away.
He's given the 119 third an 11lbs beating.
He's given the 118 fourth a 10+lbs beating.
And the 123 fifth a 12+lbs beating.

Sectional data suggest they've gone too fast and he was held up but the same data also suggests Anmaat in second got the best tactical ride and that the winner didn't get any better a ride than the third or fourth.

A not dissimilar scenario appears to have played out in the SJP but no-one is talking about downgrading Field Of Gold.

I'm going 127+ Ombudsman for now but I think he could be better than that. I'd worry that the Eclipse might come too soon.

One potential fly in the ointment I suppose is the horse that beat him in the Brigadier Gerard .
