Right here is a new thread for a new crop of blue bloods.

I will be putting up a €100 prize, with the winnings to go to a charity of your choosing. The winner will be the person who selects the highest rated horse for 2011. Ratings will be judged on the maximum RPR attained before 6th November.

You can select a horse at any time, so long as the horse is unraced when you nominate him/her. Only one entry per person.

Over the last two years, the winners have managed to nominate Mastercraftsman and Roderic O'Connor on the basis of their breeding.

The list is below. I have slightly amended Miesque's original list, to make the amendments suggest by Sequoyah.

Bar, that's extremely kind of you - thank you very much for this. I'd like to nominate:

GALILEO - NELL GWYN, please. Mum wasn't that much cop with just one win, but her sire (DANEHILL) has been a brilliant begetter, so here's hoping for the li'l chap's success.

Thank you Bar - having double checked the colts our of Dordogne and A Footstep Away are definitely not in BD. The other is indeed a Dylan Thomas. I forgot to check the filly but would be surprised if she's there.

I'll try to update once a month or if there is a significant run by one of the horses we have selected. By the way, I will be adding 5lb to the RPR of any filly when doing the final scores, so you won't be at a disadvantage picking one.

Could I have the Dansili ex Queen Cleopatra filly please? I hope they name her well - personally I think that Cleopatra Selene is the obvious choice but as it's a name I've earmarked as a possibility for one of mine I'm not sure I want them to call her that!

Shadz: just Googled up Cleo Selene and see there's a very interesting book, a debut novel, brought out this January called 'Lily of the Nile' by a woman who seems to be deeply in love with her subject, Stephanie Dray. It's noted on www.historicallyobsessed.blogspot if of any interest to you?

Elizabeth Taylor?

Cheers Kri, I'll have a look. Michelle Moran wrote a novel about her called Cleopatra's Daughter which was pretty good, personally I love her historical novels. It's a subject I'm interested in, there's not a lot written about what happened to her and her brothers Alexander Helios and Ptolemy Philadelphus although her story is documented more than that of her brothers. The fate of her half brother Ptolemy Caesar - known as Caesarion - is a tragic story also.

There weren't a lot of happy outcomes to those lives of luxe and privilege, were there? So much scheming - if not from within, then for sure from without. Precarious lives in many ways, not that I'd have minded being a pampered princess!
