Best All-Rounders

Good topic.

Overturn achieved an OR of 168 over hurdles.

Kempes 104,142,162=408
Harchibald 84, 166, 143 = 393 (rpr chase no OR to hand)
Dardjini 100,151,148= 399 (rprs only so subtract a bit)
Aitmatov 89, 160, 123= 372
Sausalito Bay 104, 138, 107 =349

You can't count Alexander Banquet's bumper RPR as equivalent to a flat rating.

I wouldn't fancy him giving 10lb to Galileo.

Agreed - hence mentioning it.

Although it's impossible to gauge the merit of Galileo's victory in the RSA against AB's failure to defeat Barton directly. AB had shown plenty before and Galileo sufficiently little since for there to be a fair bit of doubt around it.

Junior 396 on OR's.

Graham Whylie must have had a few. What was the horse that won the Supreme a few years ago? Did that jump a fence?

Alverton
Won 7 in a row on flat in 76 and runner up in Ebor to Sir Montagu who was placed to Exceller in Prix Royal Oak next start.
Over hurdles was 10 /14 lbs below stable mate Night Nurse.
Won 78 Arkle Chase and 79 Gold Cup.
Someone has the figures I guess.

Arcalis. No.

The only way you could count bumper form is if you knocked off around 30 pounds from the "flat" rating

Green Green Desert or Crystal Spirit would be a better bet.

What about the hurdlers that won the Cesarawitch over the years? What was the winner Pipe trained?

Night Nurses flat rating lets him down; he was set to receive 20 lbs or so from Sea Pigeon in 78 Chester Cup but ranks 400 or so.
DK Weld had a few.
Kiichi who won a nursey at 2, was a top 4yo hurdler in Ireland and won a Galway plate at 5.
Ansar who won Galway hurdle and Galway plates and was a useful stayer on the flat.
Majestic Concorde, pipped in Chester Cup and won Paddy Power Chase Leop off top weight.

Good topic indeed.

I think Sea Pigeon would have been right up there if he'd gone chasing. He'd been fifth (I think) in the Derby.

I reckon Overturn might be the best right enough. There was also the G1 Flat horse that won the Champion Hurdle but never went chasing either. Royal/Regal something? And the Kim Bailey Champion Hurdler was a good one on the Flat.

Did Dawn Run ever run on the Flat?

Royal Gait?

And I think the Kim Bailey Champion Hurdler was Alderbrook, group level on the Flat and second in another CH.

I don't think either went chasing.

How good was Lanzarote on the Flat?

Ansar = 91 flat + 147 hurdle + 151 chase = 389

Majestic Concorde = 101f + 136h + 155c = 391

Are there any French imports worth a mention?
