Best horse never to win a Champion Hurdle

Peddlers Cross would have won a lot of other Champions, Hurricane ripped his heart out that day and he's never recovered.

I remember someone telling to me after Aintree that Jason Maguire reckoned HF broke his heart.

0-6 in the champion. Not good enough.

Oh yes and what price would Night Nurse, Monksfield and Sea Pigeon be ?

He won 3 Bula Hurdles , 3 FF Hurdles , 2 Scottish Champion Hurdles when it was a proper race and a Christmas Hurdle He was second to Night Nurse in the mega 1976 Champion and third to Monksfield and Sea Pigeon in 1980 . He was not at his best in March at Cheltenham but he was a magnificent hurdler and Timeform rated him 176 .

Dato Star is the best horse not to have won a Champion Hurdle in the time I've been following racing. It's just a shame that his CH runs came during the window when they were carrying-out the drainage work at Cheltenham - and Claisse was at his most inept - and as a result he never got the Soft ground he wanted.

The fact he isn't even quoted in Slim's market is an outrage and a violation.

Rhinestone Cowboys third as a novice was a serious run. He could have won one.

Gotta love a good hard on for a horse. Next year, he could have gone champion but went Coral Cup instead. Think he would be a dark horse in the best never to have won a stayers/world. The day he won at Haydock I thought i was looking at a Gold Cup winner. Shame.

Macs joy. Running in an era with hardy eustace and brace inca. Won an Irish champion with those filling the places.

That is so much bollocks. He should never have run at Aintree and was given a poor programme as a novice chaser. Easier to blame a foe than **** training.

The Mullins camp would tell you the same thing, Euronymous, and they've been saying the same thing has happened to Rock On Ruby

Love the horse but Sizing Europe a dream place lay. Never that economical over hurdles and won the Greatwood getting a chunk of weight from Osana. Not much better than Katchit.
