Betfair Hurdle 2024

I was thinking of covering them all with either Ocastle Des Mottes or Iberico Lord but might not bother. Going back to that Hendo rant, if Irish horses usually get a 6lbs higher mark over here wouldn't ODM be 12lbs well in? For all that, there doesn't seem to be much strength around him and it does nag me that Jacob wasn't supposed to be coming here for the ride, instead going to Warwick for a pishy odds-on shot. Maybe this is a prep for the County or Coral Cup. And for the reasons above, I don't want to splash out a heavy saver on IL.

(My emphasis.)

The money seems to have come for ODM. In to 7/2 and shorter.

Four Nonners so far. Amongst them Brentford Hope (which has me thinking twice about following the stable). Said it before, the worst part of the game is the human element. I truly despise so many of the trainers, both codes.

Foot infection the reason for BH's withdrawal.

Nicky Henderson holds Iberico Lord in very high regard and he knows what it takes to win this.

Ignore his run in the Greatwood at your peril. He should be much shorter than he is

Iberico Lord 13/2 William Hill

Spot on Tan.

Not unhappy with how the figures fared even if I did lose on the race.

Nice shootin’, Tanlic.

Shishkin is a bizarre horse. He looks like he really cannot be arsed with it mid-race, but always puts it in at the business end. His presence in the Gold Cup field will be welcome.

I agree re Shishkin being a thinker nowadays which was presumably why they fitted the cheek pieces before. Almost certainly he didn’t like them resulting in him refusing to jump off. I wonder if he will try blinkers. Some horses will act in them rather than cheek pieces. Either way, there is the potential of the much larger occasion at Cheltenham getting to him a triggering another strop.

I imagine Shishkin only has an aversion to Ascot after that race with Energumene a few years back.
He showed after effects the next day in Champion Chase, no fault there.
His poor run in Tingle Creek can be put down to being kicked at the start.
All in all he is consistent and top class, great to see his and Edwardstone's confidence restored pre Festival, hope they can build on it .

But he won the Ascot Chase easily the year after he beat Energumene?

Indeed he did.
Maybe the tongue tie helped mask "Nicky's mix" who knows ?
Maybe he resented the cheek pieces when he refused.
I base any dislike the horse may have for Ascot on Beef Or Salmon's dislike for Cheltenham after his fall in his first Gold Cup, he never raced with any love for the place after despite nearly catching Best Mate in 2004 after being nearly lapped.

He will be 11yo and if he's feeling it next season I would reckon Nicky will have him as right as possible for a repeat in the Denman

Iberico Lord up 9lbs for the win, L'Eau Du Sud up 6lbs.

I wonder what connections have lined up for the Coral Cup and/or County. Fair chance the Skeltons will have Faivoir bursting for the County along with maybe another one. God knows what kind of arrows Hendo will have, Same with Mullins, for that matter.,

Looking forward to those two races already, probably more than the G1s.

A bit sad Faivoir well and truly shot the 50/66-1 for the County in the foot on Saturday, and with L'Eau Du Sud jumping the last, what, 3 lengths up, it couldn't have been a worse result all round :-(

I did spot a potential good class runner on looks in the paddock before the novice hurdle, though. The Big Man for Evan Williams went off 250-1. Thought he looked strongest in the parade, but obviously likely to put in an inexperienced run. As it was, I'd say it was a very promising effort. The run may well have been noticed enough to keep the odds down next time, depending on the opposition. But he eventually finished well back, there's a chance it will have gone a little under the radar.

Not sure if Faivoir did itself any harm the other day. I've taken 40/1 NRNB and it's been dropped a pound this week so will only be 2lbs higher than last year and a competent claimer like Tristan Durrell would give it every chance of a repeat. Last year's race was very strong when you look through the class of the ones that filled the places.

20-1 WH, but yes I can see 50-1 Betfair Sportsbook. That's a surprise. It will need to be soft-heavy, though. Interesting, has an entry in the Morebattle 2nd March.

Skelton making big noises about Faivoir in his festival stable tour today.

The thing about Skelton, though, is that this could easily be a decoy remark...
