Thanks, icebreaker. The increased rate is probably down to plain old competition, most other bookies are now banned in Belgium and none offer BOG. Time to ease off on betting.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't there also some countries being increased to 7.5% commission a few months back as well? Makes it a harder to make a profit.

I'm going to take a look at the other exchanges like Betdaq, WBX, Smarkets, the commissions at Betfair are much higher than the others now and will probably end up winning less after the deductions.

I had thought the same -- mentioned that 7.5% figure in my post #25.
But that statement of base rates from Betfair was recent -- so I dunno !

The problem with Betdaq is lack of liquidity resulting in large spread between Back and Lay.
Smarkets on the other hand has other issues. Although commission is a low 2%, it often crashes or goes offline at the most inopportune times.
Never had an account with WBX, so can't comment.

Ah yes you did mention that icebreaker, I missed that..

These are the previous increases from June 2013:

7.5% - Bulgaria
6.5% - Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, and Romania
6% - Argentina, Belarus, Columbia, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan , Luxembourg, Mexico, and Singapore
5.5% - Norway and Finland

I had a brief dabble with WBX but the liquidity just wasn't there so binned it.

Despite its failings, betfair is still the best offering out there in the exchange market.
