This thread officially condones after timing. What were your best bets in 2012 and what were the ones that got away? It's been an unprecedented year for punting with so many top class events to get stuck into. Euro2012, the Olympics, Le Tour and upside down handicaps either side of the Irish Sea.

Where did you get the loot this year?

High: yesterday/today, broke betting big win on England cricket/Sprinter Sacre double. Finian's Rainbow QM CC. Italy v Germany.

Low: most of the rest of the year. Not backing Encke in Leger as on long betting break. Arteta missing a pen with last kick of game cost me a bit in accums.

I found it a difficult enough year. The unsettled weather meant the form didn't seems to settle down as well as sometimes happens. Every winning day seemed to be followed by a losing day. I wasn't helped, either, by losing all my BOG accounts, thanks mainly to the illegal behaviour of the Belgian government in banning most betting sites.

The highlight was tipping and backing a few nicely priced winners on the bumpers thread. The lowlight was not bothering to back Zemsky, even for a token tenner, after a bad few days at Cheltenham left me feeling I should curb my losses. Needless to say he then proceeded to win the Foxhunters at 33/1.

Had a big antipost lucky 15 on for the festival. Took 14s on Balthazar King who won at 11/2, and got something like 7/2 on Bobs Worth. Sadly had one loser and the other one in the Grand Annual (ShotFromTheHip) didn't even get declared. I got a couple grand back but I knew a third winner, any price really would have been so much better.

On the flat, backing Timocracy and putting it up on here at around 12's was the highlight early in the season. Didn't really have another notable win for the rest of the flat season, and once again I am already telling myself this winter to forget it next summer. I see Grasshopper does Formula One, I think I'm gonna go to the local funfair and play on the go karts.

I got some 8/1 on Sprinter sacre early last season and backed it at various prices down until the day.Unfortunately I had backed the fly as well quite large, ended up about even ish on the week.Hoping a high will be flemenstar in GC this year,I've been smashing the a@@e out of it

I went into Cheltenham with 5 bad months behind me and my confidence shaken to the core.I had 2 serious bets Finians Rainbow to beat BigZeb and Kauto Star to be unplaced.I finished the week thinking I was back in the game.
Had a decent bet on Nicholls to be Champion trainer and basically kept going until November winning steadily.Any time I had a disaster I seemed to get it back with interest the following week.
The last 4 weeks would be a low -got absolutely battered into submission at the Paddy Power and Hennessy meetings.Four losing weekends on the trot. It's hard on the confidence.

2011 Grey No?

Highlight for me was punting Salisfy ante post after him winning the Raymond Smith.

Too many lows. American football bet where I thought I was covering myself in running only to notice the rules on overtime after the bet. That was particularly stupid.

Highs: Bronze Angel in the Cambridgeshire. I'd had a hard on for him since his unlucky third in the Britannia from an unfortunate draw at the Royal Meeting and got 34 and 30 on the machine before Pricewise selected him and somewhat ruined his odds. Also Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle. Backed at 12s, 10s and 7s in the run up to the Festival.

Lows: Orfevre stands out although I was still buzzing from the previous weekend so had a buffa on the heartache. The whole flat season up until the Ebor meeting. Just couldn't get going at all and the Classics were particulary grim.

Not really a big stakes gambler and unfortunatley i dont have the time to have a phd in form study but recently checkd my 2 bookie accounts since january being about £800 up,although im sure various trips on course will have eroded some of that.bobs worth has ensured a good start to the NH season anyway.Biggest win of the year would probabley be somersby in the vc in january.

I have a vision that my next high might be Calgary Bay on Friday at Cheltenham if he gets declared for it, with some decent good ground of course. Always seems to come right this time of the season and his two wins last season still look good.:)

My betting high was Sat of York tipping and doubling Times Up and Excellent Guest/Imperial Guest ( cant remember which) Goodwood the same day.
Low was not including Gordon Lord Byron on docket and then not hitting the "BET NOW" button which meant no bet placed. Was I p****d off!

Gold Cup day was the high for me. Backed Brindisi Breeze, Synchronised and Salsify, making it one of the most profitable hours in my punting life. As usual for me though it was on poker that I won some decent money overall.

Lows: 2000 guineas and the Arc. Like several others, Orfevre was a sickener for me.

Yes, HawkWing, you are right, Zemsky was 2011. It just goes to show you, the pain remains. :(

cAn't say I've had any real big highs or lows since 90% of my bets are win singles on the day of the race. Betting like that the occasional wipeout like yesterday is no big deal since it only happens once every 10 weeks on average. (I reckon half the time I end up either marginally ahead or behind and the rest of the time I win so tend to stay in front in a steady-eddie manner.)

This year I think I finished in front at all the big festivals, which is unusual.

Last really big high was probably getting 120 about New Approach a couple of nights before the Derby when he wasn't a confirmed runner.

High- Hard to pick between 2, I've had my best ever betting year primarily due to Cheltenham and the Grand National. Cheltenham I had a big Antepost bet on Sprinter Sacre and numerous antepost doubles, triples and four folds based around Sprinter Sacre, Quevega, Big Bucks and Sizing Europe. I certainly can't complain but had Sizing won I could have afforded a year off work. The Grand National was good to me again, I had fancied Neptune Collonges all year along with Chicago Grey and Sunnyhill Boy and had been trickling a couple of pounds here and couple of pounds there at odds between 50-90 on betfair for about 6 months. It provided me with my biggest ever single win, regrettably I never watched the race live as I was on holiday in Cuba and couldn't find aywhere showing it.

Low- Orfevre, again I'd fancied it for a long time and had numerous bets from 16's down. On the day of the race I was in a great position and should have laid my liability off but instead chose to cover my bets with any horse I could conceivably see winning, Solemia unfortunately was not one of them. 2F out I was jumping around the rooms convinced Orfevre was going to win. I ended up losing about 2 months of betting stakes on the race and it started a really bad spell where I couldn't buy a winner for well over a month, thank god the jumps season has kicked in, I bloody hate the flat:D

Havn't had a losing week since april 2011 although i don't have anywhere near as many bets i'm still winning the same amounts, more this season due to ridiculous strike rate. But despite the winning run, last 12 months no really big wins as previous years,my worst months are usually december, jan and feb in previous seasons!!:ninja:

Most of the highs for me are from Rugby Union where I bet large on rabo direct games concerning welsh clubs and I follow it religiously,so much so that hills won't let me have a bet online re.rugby.al Ferof was a good day for me last month.
Orfevre was a kick in the guts to me too, sizing europe,Darlan-supreme and on and on.oh did I mention orfevre.
