Blue-sky-thinking?

you'd only be whinging about a hose pipe ban if we did get a decent summer.

Not me. Never did when we had one. Might moan about the fact that we're surrounded by water but still have a drought, but that's another issue.

That's because we're too bloody cheap to build desalination plants. Whine, whine, moan, moan. Surrounded by free seawater and while we let our reservoirs crack and sink, do we chuck a few billion into ensuring fresh, clean supplies of the most essential thing to life? Do we feck - we invest £2bn in a useless, unworkable NHS IT system, and build energy-inefficient windfarms at millions a pop.

London's been pretty nice for most of the summer so far. Most of the rain has come from thunder showers, which have been quite welcome in breaking some quite muggy weather at times. Overall, nowhere near as bad as the last two years.

Well given that it's a Pacific system I'd be worried if we had

It does have global consequences mind, it was a La Nina year last year which would be expected to contribute towards poor summer weather in the UK but I'm not sure what the situation is this year.

Are you in London, Gareth? Quelle surprise! I thought you were across the sea, in Ireland - duh, what do I know! I've liked the thunder showers here in Brighton, too - most have come at the right time, evening or during the night, refreshing the plants beautifully and clearing the air for the next day (like now - a perfect, fresh, bright, all-blue-sky day with a light breeze). Gorgeous weather so far.

Couldn't agree more - was horrified at the desecration of much of the Cornwall landscape when we went to Royal Cornwall last month - horrific and for what? Wind power is not the answer unless they're chucked off shore, possibly.

We're currently experiencing yet another crap wet July, just when we need to get second cut done. Which means we've had to get most of the cattle back in the sheds because the mowing grass they should be following hasn't been cut and that means we're feeding forage we'll need this winter. Farmers have been commenting for a while now that the Met Office forecasts have been shite compared to a couple of other weather sites and it's difficult to understand why they have recently managed to get it so wrong.

It's been hammering down all afternoon. The BBC website showed the current front for heavy rain driving NE by about 7.00 pm. Not so. The sky is now as grey as when we had that awful weather front a couple of years ago. Senior Cat is getting twitchy and I am considering putting the furniture up on stilts - just in case. Three times in two years would be just a bit too bloody much - all because the drainage maintenance was dropped because of f****** cost cutting.

Playing a match this evening and the heavens absolutely opened for around 15 minutes....never seen anything like it.

So you're nowhere near Perth, I take it? Who's to blame for the uneven watering in Scotland?
