Think the bumpers deserve their own thread as the Mares listed race at Gowran today looks a cracker

Queen Deirdre was impressive at Galway and have read she will come on for the run. The 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] has won since, but there’s not much else has come out of the race

Takeittothelimits is 2/2 having won a relatively weak looking Bellewstown 7 runner race. Also has to give Queen Deirdre 3lb

Nice to see a couple of UK runners and Snow Leopardess with Jamie Codd up represents Aintree form and think she’ll at least hit the frame for Charlie Longsdon. The other representative is Seelateralligater for the Skelton’s who needs to improve, but that is very likely

I think Queen Deirdre will win, but not a punting proposition for me at 5/4

I agree, they must be delighted to get such a nice field for this race.

Queen Deirdre seems to be top of the tree for the time being in the WPM yard and she surprised even them with the style of her win at Galway.

A bit late coming back to this, but Snow Leopardess actually won very well and will now go hurdling. She’ll do well against her own sex. Queen Deirdre disappointed, but am sure that's not her form

There was also a nice performance yesterday from Monbeg Notorius in the last at Tipperary. Looks a real NH horse in the making and expect him to excel over further

I think we might have seen a very good performance from Morgan at Cork yesterday.

Tony Ennis on ATR thought Patrick Mullins on favourite Bargy Lady, winner of a Listowel bumper by 18L, let Morgan slip away early in the straight, and would have won if he'd been more alert. But I thought Patrick was keeping proper tabs on Morgan and asked his mount to pick up only a split second after that one started to move forward. Bargy Lady was very game and left the third-placed horse Doran's River, who has useful form, a long way behind, but she couldn't match Morgan's kick and only ate into his lead when that one was allowed to ease down late on. But given she was carrying a 7lb penalty, this was a fine run by Bargy Lady against what might be a decent performer.

I know that the Irish lads love them, but even after all these years, I still find it hard to get enthusiastic about Bumpers.....unless it's to reminisce about Montelado and Dato Star.

Thinking about it, this might accurately date the last two times I actually backed the winner in such a race!

I’ve started to appreciate bumpers much more over the last few years. As granger says, it’s a starting place for futures stars but also find them profitable (particularly in Ireland) as are generally uncompetitive with winners coming from the front of the market, which is the area I normally play in

Back to the horses, Ravenhill Road was v impressive in the last at Market Rasen on Saturday. The 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] fav disappointed in the race, so not getting carried away, but he’s one for the tracker

Morgan a fine big scopy horse with presence, stride, scope and pace.
It was a rocking good race, the trip a tad far for Bargy Lady perhaps at this stage of her career but the first four are decent.
As good a race as has been at this stage of the season; i remember a Mallow winners bumper when a Ted Curtin trained, Bunker Hunt owned gelding by Ack Ack had a ding dong battle with one of Michael Neville's many years ago, the former getting the full T M Walsh treatment for a half length win .

I like bumpers for one reason

It's a way to spot big chasers of potential for the future, track them and say you followed them from day 1

All probably true, but I reckon the same applies to some top-end (and some not so top-end) French 3/4yo hurdle races, where there's a lot less chaff.

It's also nice to see a horse you spotted in a P2P turn up in a point

I prob have never bet on a bumper and literally treat it as a creche to the future and one that should be enjoyed for that purpose.

I love adding a horse to my tracker after a bumper performance knowing that fun will be had in future seeing how it plays out

Just saw that Morgan is a half brother to Johns Spirit and cost 170k at Derby Sale last year having made 20 as a foal.
That big Bad bob has sired the top US chaser this year only adds to the spice for the future.

Worth keeping an eye on Heartasia for Susan Corbett in the 3yo bumper at Carlisle today, From 50/1 last night it's blue across the board and 20/1 in places.
Being by Dream Ahead she's not exactly bred for the job but the trainer won this race 2 years ago with Virnon, another gambled on outsider.

Morgan out tomorrow in the last at Down Royal and think he will go very close getting a few lb's from the other previous winners

Another very smart bumper winner in Monbeg Notorious goes in the opening maiden hurdle & think he's got a great chance as well if taking to hurdles

I've posted it in the Pointers thread and the AP comp but don't let Sumkindofking go unnoticed this term when the ground is decent.

Cruiseaweigh was another hugely impressive winner for George in the last at Aintree on Saturday. Worth a watch if you've not seen yet

Samcro today, sired by Germany, same as Faugheen but rated 2lb higher on his PTP win on RP ratings. He gave a 10 lengths beating of a c/d bumper winner so immediately added to my radar.
