Don't know that area at all!

We were thinking of going to Oxford for the weekend in the van sometime this autumn, apparently there is a couple of sites over that way not far from the town shrug::
ALDANITI.......... let us know at least a few days before you go, wont you..... :P :D :D
So I can stay at home............ :D

Thanks COL I think overall it was the correct thing to have done ...no hard feelings from here to any post either, but there are somethings that don't need to be aired on here, being personal to who ever it is about, and that encompasses every member I would have thought? ta.........

The A34 is lethal. I was hit from the side by an HGV about 2 years ago. The car was ok, but you should have seen the state of the HGV.
ITS A PLANE !!ITS A PLANE!!!

Then you awoke.... DIMS.......... :D

Every single accident I've seen on the A34 has involved at least one HGV. I'm sure it's not just a coincidence.

I've got a theory that the slip roads aren't long enough, and then there's a few filling stations and a little chief or similar that have equally inadequate run in areas. It's also a bit like that spot on the M6 around Sandbach and Keele where the road moves at a decent clip, but is still conjested, so you've got nose to tail 70mph+ driving without motorway restrictions, so some bloody tractor emerges from a slip road at 5mph and suddenly you've got a problem. Similar to the A1 in that regard, which is a road I personally hate, although ti doesn't seem to generate the number of crashes you feel it should

Lordy my kitchen is longer than the slip road from the A420 onto the A34 :angy:

Griffin, thank goodness you're all okay. I couldn't stand the thought of any harm coming to you and your little darlings.

Now, this IS off-caravan, I'm afraid, but what IS the Highway Code for where two lanes come up to a roundabout, when there's only ONE lane ahead? I'm asking because my chumette has just been sideswiped. Having been tailgated by a prat for a few miles, they arrived at a roundabout with her in the right lane, and him in the left. They both went over together, and he bashed into the rear left of recently resprayed sports car "because I thought you were turning right!" Well, she wasn't INDICATING right, so it should be reasonable to assume that Mr Impatient wasn't indicating left, either, and that both were going ahead.

I'm always faced with this one at the big Arundel roundabout - there's only one lane ahead towards Brighton, a left into Arundel or straight ahead, or a right to elsewhere and, judging by the amount who go for the gap (or no gap) also straight ahead! I've looked in the Highway Code booklet, but I can't see a right or wrong way for these two-into-one things at roundabouts. Anyone know if there is a rule, or is it just first in, first across, or bashy-crashy when two arrive at the same time?

I think you're in the right hand lane if you're going right and the left for left or straight on.

I wondered about that, until I got in the left lane and got cut up by someone swirling in off the right! :suspect: At Arundel, just about everyone goes in the left to go straight ahead, but outside Lingfield, it's the opposite. No wonder I'm permanently bewildered by the driving experience. shrug::

I've given up using the road the number of times I get stuck on it because some bloody Oxfordshire motorist can't keep their car on the paddock.
G'wan, g'wan - just say you mean Dom, Warbler .....

I think all road users bar Audi drivers should be banned.
Strange - my mantra is that all Audi drivers should be barred .... especially those that drive silver ones. The ability to drive seems to escape them utterly...

She's not an Oxfordshire driver is she? Oh bloody hell!!!! I always assumed she was Berks

Mind you, having just told us that she's been rammed up the rear end, and is currently in an insurance claim thus, she might be tempted to agree :D Provided said incidcent occured in Ox of course.

Actually it happened in Surrey!! :P Not a lot I could do about it either I'm afraid - heavy traffic, all cars stopping at the time! I don't tend to be the one crawling either, not in the slightest....

...and yes, I'm what you'd call a Berkshire driver I guess, coming from Berkshire!

There are 3 or 4 filling stations on the A1 between Huntingdon and Newark that have about 3 feet of slip road to try and get up to speed, terrible planning

Filling stations??????? I believe everywhere outside of the "You-nited States" they are known as petrol stations....whatever happened to the Queen's English??

Simple idea and it will help all - raise taxes and nationalize the railways. Will improve service and stop everyone complaining about everyone else :)

Since "petrol station" is technically incorrect (my car is diesel), I prefer "garage" .... I shouldn't think the Queen is too familiar with the terminology :P
