Caspian Cavier Gold Cup 16th December, Chelters

Confirmations – Caspian Caviar - Clan Des Obeaux, Vaniteux, Kylemore Lough, O O Seven, Le Prezien, Starchitect, Foxtail Hill, Max Ward, Long House Hall, Romain De Senam, Ballyalton, King's Odyssey, On Tour, Splash Of Ginge, Kilcrea Vale, Deauville Dancer, Guitar Pete.

No Go Conquer. I can see myself backing Kylemore Lough again here, although I thought O O Seven ran well fto.

Euro, just a heads-up. Kylemore is entered in the re-opened Peterborough at Taunton, though isn't jocked-up yet.

Fifty two years ago Flyingbolt carried 12st.6lb in the equivalent of the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup and won by 15 lengths. Just saying.

Same for Long House Hall DO though I see from earlier post you’ve already backed him for this

At a guess this is the main target of the year for Clan des Obeaux -10/1 is value.

Well Luke, it hasn't won yet, but I hope you got 10/1 on Clan Des Obeaux. That looks a value price, right-about now.

I've gone off Foxtail Hill. He's stagnant in the market at 16/1, looks to be the second string to Splash Of Ginge.
I've probably been barking up the wrong tree with Foxtail.

There's something that may be running on the 23rd that I fancy a lot more! :)

In light of this going to risk it and take 8's about Le prezien now in case this cuts up badly. I'd expect he'll run. Famous last words.

I think "are you shh-till palaying with shh-mall furry animal mish money penny" will win this

I wish someone who fancies this would explain to me why as I must be missing something to my eye he looks very harshly treated on what he has achieved so far. Portrait King finished in front of him in the Topham and he's a complete boat.

I took 16/1 Long House Hall this evening.

There has to be a chance he won't run but if he does turn up I suspect he might be the type punters could latch on to.

He looks a very interesting runner Des certainly well treated ( due to his absence ) only a couple of pounds higher than his summer Summer Plate win which taking into account what he was doing in the early stages of the race made him look like a horse with huge potential. The break isn't as much of a concern as most would think it as he's won when fresh but more significantly finished 2nd in a Coral Cup after a long break. That not only shows a bit of course form but also that he handles the hustle and bustle of big handicaps. My only slight concerns would be if the ground does come up testing whether they would a) run him on it as he's had problems b) whether he'd actually handle it. The only other slight concern would be lack of experience over fences and coming back after a break whether his jumping would hold up especially as he can be a bit keen. I suppose you never get a 16/1 shot without a couple of question marks around it and he is certainly one of the more interesting ones that comes from outside of the Bet Victor form.

Good stuff Des and I take it that's the sort of case you'd make for him or is there something else.

Oh fair play mate I never really put much faith in what trainers say especially Mr Henderson but saying that I wouldn't put too much faith in my own judgement either .

Some of the names that won the race like Leap Frog Dublin Flyer Pendil Titus Oats Even melody etc were all abit special..recent winners just don't have the same ring to them

Pretty much, Danny. He's near the top of my ratings for the race with a '+p'.

LHH still in there. So far so good...

I expect Ballyalton will be my only other bet but still pondering the race.

Think I'm starting to side with Ballyalton, don't think the conditions will be as testing as the Bet Victor which should suit. On course last month they altered the going to soft/heavy in places around the start of the first.

The one I'm considering personally is Foxtail Hill. He's a proper Cheltenham specialist, has already beaten some decent horses including Saphir Du Rheu and Le Prezien. I thought 147 was still a rating he could win off, but I'd welcome any feedback. I'd definitely put a line through the last day, he's better than that.
Sporting interest will have to be on Foxtail Hill. After mentioning Slash Of Ginge six weeks before the Bet Victor then abandoning him nearer the race, I couldn't bear it, if Foxtail Hill won and I didn't have pound coin on.

A bit of market support would help confidence levels.

Make of it what you will, which could sensibly be nothing, but I read somewhere that Rory Delargy had been informed by connections that the horse was already handicapped up to the hilt and there wasn't much more to come.

Was expecting quite a few to come out but not perhaps some of the ones that did RDS was 48's on the machine last night and Foxtail Hill was 34's last time I'd checked so thought they were out tbh. Foxtail is still entered in the Junior Jumpers race as well so perhaps they'll see how the ground is before making a decision which race to take in.

Personally for my pair which made the line up the less rain the better.

Err, I mentioned Rory earlier on the thread, if that's what you are referring to. He just gave me a personal opinion (I believe) that the horse is handicapped to the hilt. I'm not sure if that's what connections said to him, but you'd have to ask him that.

I think 147 is a fair enough mark, based on what he's done. Rory also told me he's a good horse when they give him too much rope.

The smallish field of 11 gives the impression the winner is easy to find. In truth its very open and competitive. Foxtail Hill has as good a chance as anything, (me thinks).

So that's where I got it from!!! Jesus, I need putting away I really do...

I'd convinced myself I'd picked it up from something on Twitter.

Need to learn to mind my own ********* business.

I like the horse too FWIW. What did he mean by 'give him too much rope'?

Think it relates to his front running style, Ivan.

'He's good with too much rope', alas, he's good if other jockeys allow him too much of an easy lead.

HTH
