Champion Hurdle Road ToThread 24/25

I would be the first to say that Constitution Hill was the best Supreme winner since Golden Cygnet and the day he won the Champion Hurdle he was the best Champion Hurdler since Istabraq.

If he's still that horse next Tuesday none of them will see which way he went.

It's what has happened since that bothers me.

Yes, he's returned from issues to win his last two races in cold blood, but he hasn't had to run anywhere near his previous peak form either time so, for me, there's a lingering question mark as to whether he still can - so odds on doesn't appeal.

For full disclosure, I've got 12/1 and 10/1 about Constitution Hill to never win another Champion Hurdle and 7/2 and 5/2 (effectively savers) about him to just win one more.

I just thought those prices were value when first offered and tbh I still think they are.

I'm also on Brighterdaysahead at 6/1 - tbh I'm not sure how good she is as maybe she was the only one to run her race last time out when she bolted in.

But even so, getting the 7lb, I think she will serve it up to Constitution Hill and if she can actually get him off the bit - and "at it" - it might just be interesting.

This promises to be the most fascinating Champion Hurdle in years in my book.

You took 12s and 10s to not win another champion hurdle because it was value and then criticised me for saying I took 11/2 cos it was value.and said there was better value at Southwell on a week day afternoon.

Fair play, you got me bang to rights there - tbh I didn't think 11/2 was value at the time you took it, but one look at the betting market tonight tells us you were right and I was wrong.

Good luck on Tuesday - if I don't win, I hope you do.

.
You must be pleased though right? You wanna see the best take each other on. Complete waste seeing them in the Mares!

Absolutely. For Constitution Hill to achieve widely recognised GOAT status (which he already has in my eyes - well, from my first experience in 1954 when my father first took me to Cheltenham and it was Sir Ken) he has to beat the best about. Bring them on.

Hopefully he retains all of the ability of old. Time will tell.

Delighted Brighter is running - hope Lossiemouth turns up too . The vibes seem good about CH - will be a proper CH this year it seems.

Nicky said he's as good now as he was when he won the Champion Hurdle.
Nico seems to agree but apart from Nicky's record of getting them right on the day we have seen no evidence of that.
He pulled it off with Sprinter Sacre when he won back his crown but the opposition he faced 2nd time round wasn't as strong as previously... Constitution Hill is the opposite as the opposition looks much stronger than he has ever faced.
That has to be a worry in anyone's book...I reckon he has to run to a 180+ to win and that is one tough ask.

Stronger than laying State Man and Vauban to waste on his first try at therace?
I think not!

Those are entries and are not confirmed runners.
Golden Ace is 500/1 for the Champion Hurdle and 7/1 for the Mares as is Lossiemouth who remains 9/2 for the Mares....Willie won't commit until Sunday according to Rich Ricci

Golden Ace will end up in the mares. I think the trainer has already stated it

The BHA doesn't help with using the words 'confirmations' and 'declarations' without making the distinction clear to punters.

They aren't 'entries' as such either. The entries go back to the entry stage itself. I've lost track of how many 'confirmation' stages there are, one or two, today's being the 6-day 'confirmation' stage, hence the title Ian copied across from the website. The 'declaration', it seems, are now to refer to the final decs, at the 48-hour stage.

It's the six-day confirmation stage, abbreviated to confirmations by the Racing Post which I cut and pasted from as Maurice correctly surmises.

The final decs are on Sunday at the 48-hour stage - there are penguins at the South Pole who know this and I can't believe it's a discussion topic on a racing forum tbh - in other "news" a horse has four legs in case that helps anyone. 😂

Think Lossie will only run in the Champion Hurdle if the ground is soft. Gd-sft or better side of that i think she'll go mares.

Ruby Walsh has thrown his hat into the ring.
He's gone all out for Brighterdaysahead
He said as he watched win at Punchestown he kept thinking you're going too fast
He basis his selection on this.
So I took a closer look and found she clocked a time 6 seconds fast beating a tree with State Man running like a drain
Earlier July Flower clocked a time 5 seconds faster for 2m4f
So it would seem the ground was very fast and the time nothing that special.
Unless Constitution Hill 's wheels have come off he'll have her for breakfast

Was those last 2 lines Ruby's or yours?

Willie said in a recent interview he has absolutely no intensions of running her in the Mares
The 2 year plan has been to run her in the Champion Hurdle and that is where she I'll go...his words not mines
