Horse of the Year & Best Staying Chaser: Don Cossack

Get the **** outta here. I know he was impressive at Aintree and Punchestown but sometimes those races take absolutely feck all winning. Look at Boston Bob the year before.

It boggles the mind that he's single figures for the Gold Cup. No chance whatsover.

The Don should be fav in next year's GC based on last year form, if he returns in same shape this term the rest will need to improve to get to him.

Don Poli is the only horse of with a Don in his name with a chance. DC's form is all outside of Cheltenham. he's Beef or Salmon light.

Don Poli has a great chance but The Don is the one on all known form. Think you should watch last season Ryanair, took a fall in the RSA 2 years ago when too far out so nothing suggests he doesn't handle Chelt.

The way he stayed on up the hill at last Chelt after a big mistake with 5 to go and then badly hampered 2 out was simply outstanding. Then to return after in P'town and Aintree and beat the 2nd and 3rd in the GC, he had a hard campaign and still to produce those performances. The others have some way to catch up with him if he'll be in same form, took him a long time to arrive at this level since his bumping days and hopefully it continues this season as well.

He fell in the RSA, he made a bad mistake in the Ryanair, exactly. At his price I'd want to be a lot more confident of an error free round.

Never mind the GC for Don Cossack if he's capable of exhibitions like that Melling win
Man that was a beautiful performance.

Some surprising stick for Don Cossack. To be blunt he's a ruddy good horse.
Don Poli just may need some ease to get involved. Friday ground may just find him out.

All said and done, redemption awaits Djakadam. 14/1 my ar*e.

I'd accept Vautour might not get home but it's still his target and I'd be surprised if his stamina is found out before then.

I agree Vautour target will be the Gold Cup , but the King George will be his race ,if he turns up fit and well nothing will lay a glove on him.

No doubt Gold Cup is the target. Always seen him as a King George horse.
Just maybe he can stretch it out, we'll see.

Vautour won't get home imo.
DC also has doubts granted.

Vautour's sire is Robin Des Champs who gets plenty of horses who want 3m+, and his Dam was a multiple winner in France over obstacles at up to 3m1f. On breeding, he has better chances of getting than most, and if the Timeform ratings are to be believed (Don Cossack apart, they're probably not miles out), then he doesn't even need to improve to put himself right in the mix.

Don't buy into the theory that he is a 2m-2.5-miler, just because he's won a Supreme and a JLT. Instead, buy into the theory that he is an absolute monster of a horse.

For a bit of fun, I've done a 100/1 fourfold:
Faugheen (CH)
Douvan (Arkle)
UDS (QM)
Vautour (GC)

I have Annie Power (Mares) instead of Douvan in my 4-Folds............and a number of Doubles on Faugheen/UDS.

I also have £40 at 19.0 about Vautour for the King George (21 Jan 2015)

You can make a case for him getting it for sure. Ultimately I'm going by my eye which tells me King George. I'm in no doubt either that he's a special horse. Just think he maybe stretched in a Gold Cup. If he does get the trip I'm in no doubt he'll win. Will probably take some getting mind if all the principles line up. Could be a monster of a Gold Cup.
Not that the Ryanair will enter calculations unless he folds before hand. How far would he win that race by.

I've done the trebles as well. I'm fairly confident that AP will go for the Mares but slightly concerned about her soundness for taking short odds at this early stage.
