Cheltenham 2016

Tuesday's 6 day decs today but can anybody tell me what the deterrent is to prevent connections simply leaving horses in until the final 24 hour decs ?

I always thought each declaration stage required some form of part payment but now I'm thinking I may have imagined that and even if there were one, the cost is sufficiently negligible that wealthy owners wouldn't bat an eyelid, hence the Ricci's, Wylie's and Gigi's entered up in everything they're eligible to run in.

Just seems something of a pointless exercise to me.

Cheltenham get much rain overnight DG?

Edit; scrap that, just saw your update on the other thread.

I know when I almost had a runner in the Fred Winter there was payments at every declaration.

Thanks, those were my initial thoughts Digger. Must be a relatively small amount though (for owners like the aforementioned especially) and whatever the intention was when the process was first defined it doesn't seem to be working too well with the amount of horses engaged in not even 2 but more races.

I like the recent initiative to prevent horses from being declared in handicaps on consecutive days but the whole thing needs a review IMHO.

tbh I side with owners and trainers on this. I know there was also something in the Rancid Post where they wanted all NH to go to 48hr decs. Owners shouldnt be forced to dec horses when the conditions of the race can change so much. The only people wanting that are AntePost punters and the clowns that "publish" the RP.

Not at all. Digger.
It works quite well for the Saturday 'feature races', the major races at the festival, aw racing and the whole of the flat season.
Rarely bet ante-post, but love the facility myself, and non-runners because of the changing ground wouldn't have run anyway.

Anyone thinking of going to Stratford Races Monday en route to Cheltenham, forget it, meeting abandoned as course is flooded.

Assume that must be river flooding as otherwise rather early considering the forecast .

Yes the Rivers Avon and Severn tend to flood a couple of days after heavy rain further North with the downward surge of water so the Tewkesbury to Gloucester area near the Severn is expected to flood tonight for instance

DG, you're usually first out of the blocks with the decs...can you post the Wednesday decs when you get them, please......good man.

DG, am I right in saying that if Great Field is declared for the Coral Cup, he can't be declared for the County......or is that only at overnight stage?

In other words, if he is dec'd in the Coral (as he is), can he still be decd for the County too (and I'm none the wider about where he will actually run until next week)?

You can ignore this, Roger......Bonjers has confirmed GF is scratched from the Coral Cup........now watch the ba*stard get scratched from the County!

To answer your question though Grass, I'm pretty sure you can declare them for two handicaps within 48 hours but no longer twice within 24. Though I stand to be corrected.

ireland 3/1 to win the betbright cup with powers seems ridiculously high

Not something I'm personally interested in betting in but yes, that's a crazy price considering they currently have 18 of the 28 favs, although without the strength in depth in each race.

That's all factored into the price.

I know Slim but I think they've over inflated the depth factor. There's a lot of dead wood in the UK runners and I'd say in nearly all races the number of likely winners is very similar between the two "teams".

They've got it wrong, as evidenced by every other bookie being < 2/1

Please come and have your max bet...

As I said in the first post it's not my type of bet and my max allowed with Paddy is pittance nowadays anyhow.

But the fact remains; do the Irish have a better than 25% chance of winning this ? and the answer has to be yes.

You can get as much as you like on at 3/1 in the shops or online.
