I got this in the post at the weekend. You can download the horses mouth app and hover your phone over some of the pics (those with the little symbol in the corner) to get some background. For the one with Ed Chamberlin you get an interview.

Nice but I’m sure many would prefer cheaper bar or ticket prices

I think that it's slightly skewed by the dry autumn. The breakdown for 2017/18 is:

3 May
1 August
9 October
4 November
5 December
1 January
4 February
1 March

If I take it any further I'll probably concentrate on championship and novice races.

It's interesting stuff, but I'm not seeing a huge trend that I could use to influence my betting patterns - in fact, it would be fair to say that there doesn't appear to be too much disadvantage in when you start them off - it probably follows the general pattern of when horses that run at Cheltenham start off their campaigns.

You'd need a much bigger sample cross-referenced with average ground conditions but I'm thinking that it's only going to be informative for individual races or groups of races. That's why I mentioned championship and novice races in particular.

Yep - I'd take the bumper out of the sample too as it has a tendency to supply outliers on this data.

When I started punting in the early 80's you just completely discounted anything that ran before the first of October when it came to the festival.I think it shows how the game has changed in that time -a four day festival, a dedicated summer jumping season you see Willie Mullns French imports winning at places like Sligo and there is no telling how good they are.The excellent drainage is also a factor.

One of the bacon bap thingies now charging £6 for a roll when it was £5 end of last season, when it was literally a roll with two small over cooked rashers in it.

I like Vengeur De Guye from Lucinda Russell's yard in the 2 mile chase on Friday. He races with a very low weight with a five pound claimer.

I reckon it was a career best the last day with top weight. He has the profile of a dark horse upped in class.

Bun Doran is a horse I know about but not for me at that price and I think I have found the right alternative in the shape of Vengeur De Guye.

So, an average of 4 out of 28 winners per year have run at the November meeting. Interesting but not exactly earth-shattering. I like my stats but without the number of runners who ran in November and failed in March there isn't much context.

Very wet here in Cheltenham, reports of snow in the hilly areas

Update from racecourse

Following heavy rainfall overnight, there will be a precautionary inspection at 3pm today ahead of tomorrow's raceday.

It's been very heavy since about 8 last night with no sign of it easing.
I've just seen they've announced a precautionary inspection at 1500 for tomorrows card.
I can see them abandoning tomorrow to try and save the weekend and give the course time to drain.
