Cheltenham Festival Going Watch

I've been saying for at least a week now that the weather and the ground was not as bad as the vast majority in the racing media were suggesting. So I decided to put my money were my mouth is and I've backed good to soft.

Even good to soft (soft in places) settles the bet as a winner. Was delighted to see the bit of green in the course map yesterday, but worryingly on this mornings update all the green is gone :(

Nick Luck has inferred that Elliott confirmed Envoi for the Ballymore after walking the track this morning. Any explicit confirmation?
Its all over twitter. Its on Elliots official Twitter page and Elliot was on the phone live to Nick on the show 5 mins ago confirming it too.

It's 99.9999999% confirmed.

Official decs are in 2 mins!

they got very little rain last night less than 1/2 forecast, Ive came to the conclusion it a youngster with a felt tip pen colouring these maps and a granny with a Knitting needle doing the going stick.

The course appear to be saying that they got 4mm overnight. A going stick reading of 5.6 would confirm soft ground with another bit due overnight.

I was going to do Chantry House in the supreme but that’s enough to make me look elsewhere now.

All that deep grass will ensure any rain that does fall late will stay near the surface.

The Cheltenham Festival looks set to start on soft ground according to clerk of the course Simon Claisse with a further 4-5mm of rain forecast for Monday.
However, a largely dry week from the first day on Tuesday means the ground is likely to improve as the meeting progresses, with a change in the official description predicted for either day three on Thursday or Friday's finale.
"We had 4mm overnight in line with the forecast so we took the good to soft in places out of the Old and New courses and it is reported then as soft. The cross-country remains soft, heavy in places," said Claisse on Sunday afternoon.
"The forecast is for a dry period until mid-afternoon on Monday and then we may get another 4-5mm Monday night into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
"If that's the case I think it will be soft ground for the first race on Tuesday."

Looking further into the week, Claisse added: "Beyond the rainfall Monday night into Tuesday, there's only a millimetre or two a day showing on the forecast and I think we'll end up with good to soft back in the description by Thursday or Friday."

Still bright with cloud but something's brewing

I just arrived in Birmingham from Dublin. Was raining solid in Dublin as we were leaving so it’s on the way across.

The forecast is not pleasant for 12 hours through the night at the moment. Fingers crossed for a positive change.

Nothing too heavy

Claisse on RacingTV now "If we get the forecast amount going will be Good to Soft by Thursday, the Chase course is on fresh ground and will be half a point quicker."
