Cheltenham Festival Trials Day

This is one of my favourite day's racing and I usually go but this time round I have just decided to watch at home -mainly to manage my betting. Several of the horses that I have followed over the years are running as well as some young ones that I have recently put in my "stable".

In the Argento Weird Al goes well fresh and will handle the ground and as I don't fancy the market leaders I have small ew bet. The reason it is small is because I have opted to back Cape Tribulation at whatI believe is a good price. He did me well over hurdles at the Festival and at Aintree last seaon and following his run LTO he could take on this uninspiring field. Looking at the forum archive confirms my admiration for this one from bumper days and he always looked a chaser in the making. Unfortunately he wasn't fluent over fences as a novice but LTo he appeared to have the confidence and fluency missing before.

A permanent improvement? Perhaps wishful thinking but I'm having a go.

Coneygree- this is some horse and whilst the distance may be a little short he's a front runner and it will a good one that beats him. I rarely back horses at his likely starting price but may do so if earlier results are positive.

Ridiculous price differential between the big two. Coneygree is a monster and a good bet tomorrow.

I'll also be backing Reve De Sivola.

Euro. If I knew what race he was going to at the Festival-ie he had a definite target-Coneygree would be one of my biggest bets. That includes the Neptune where I could well do with a substantial saver.

I don't know how you can say regardless of the opposition. With Grands Crus a non stayer and Tidal Bay lame there actually isn't any really.

Granted there isn't much, but enough of them to provide a test he'll almost certainly fail.
Much the same as (your) Coneygree, he's running here with an eye to the future, rather than at the trip he's best suited to, and. though they're both bloody good horses, neither would be a bet for me - under today's circumstances.

Tidal Bay a NR after all

Going is Heavy, soft in places. 4mm of rain overnight.

2nd, 3rd and 5th races may be run on the round course (exactly same distance). Still some snow on the shute which they hope will go.

Have a suspicion the New One's hurdling will possibly crumble when he's up against a top class rival.

With ground as soft as it is I am amazed that Oscar Whisky is holding off Reve de Sivola for favouritism in the Cleeve.

Everything says Oscar Whisky shouldn't be running here so this is where reverse logic comes in. Henderson wouldn't send him here if he wasn't sure and he could end up making RDS look like the plodder he is.

This is why he's fav, because of the slavish devotion the pricks who make the odds have to all things Henderson.

Henderson wouldn't send him here if he wasn't sure

The same thing was argued when he sent the horse in error to the World Hurdle.

Henderson can't be sure about 3 miles for the horse given his comments about nearly bottoming him in the World Hurdle.Obviously with Big Bucks out of the picture they feel it's worth taking the risk.
Personally I would be looking to lay him in running at about 2.02 and shorter.
I had a decent ew bet on him in the World Hurdle and I was very disappointed with the way he faded.

I think its near enough a cert OW will trade at at least 1.4 on betfair at some point in the race whether he wins or not that's probably the strategy to take if you think he isn't going to get the trip as he'll travel best by far.

The Murphy hcap chase should be a cracking race. Some really progressive types, Bold Sir Brian, Katenko, Bless the Wings and Pacha de Polder. Even in the ground it could be too short for Katenko and Bold Sir Brian so I've gone with Bless the Wings.

I'm a massive fan of Bold Sir Brian and think he will win this. Clearly a sighter for a tilt at the festival.

Agree with the guys on RUK that he needs to jump better. Clearly talented as he made up lot of ground mid race but had run out of petrol when falling.

Good to hear that Bold Sir Brian got up ok.

Looked to be ok walking away. Great to see.

Argento is tricky. If the commander is anywhere near the horse he was he'll win this easily in receipt of 10lb from some of them. If he isn't I thought Wayward Prince had shown much more sparkle this year and looks a good e/w bet at 14/1.
