Cheltenham Going on Day 1?

forecast has firmed up a bit now to show pretty constant rain from saturday evening through all of sunday. i've taken around 11/8 on it starting on soft ground on the exchanges.

If it goes to heavy WPM may regret switching Ballyburn to the longer trip

His average time compared to State Man was miles slow and slightly faster than Jetara on soft to heavy in December

I don't think he's the next Altior and better than him have been beaten on bad ground

3-5mm is next to nothing in the big scheme of things.

Turftrax is now showing all the heavy is out of the ground bar a number of places on the x-country course. Soft everywhere for Tuesday at the moment. They're saying dry for now until that very light rain over the weekend and then dry again most of the week. There's a fair chance 'good to soft' will appear somewhere in the going report come Tuesday, maybe something along the lines of, "Soft, Good to Soft in places."

Soft - G/S in places will do me as it'd mean my bet lands

Just spotted that on Twitter/X, JamesRB. If it's accurate, it has dried-out a hell of a lot in a couple of days.

These bets should be settled on the stick reading at a nominated place on the course rather than the form of words used by a clerk with a vested interest.

Last year the local rag told everyone it was going to be g/s pubished on the Monday...........it was soft.

British weather....could snow there tomorrow ffs better pissin your coin against a wall

Maybe the water table isn't as high as they thought?

I've been thinking 'Soft, G-S in places' for days now but now I'm wondering if it might go 'G-S, Good in places' by Tuesday.

Due to rain there on Sunday according to Met Office. That said, the course does drain well.

Massive drying here at home with Easterly winds over last two days.
Today zero drying as nom wind and cloudy all day.
Can easily see your prediction come true Truncheon but very little rain will change the going again with little grass cover/growth.
At least no frost forecast.

it's absolutely pouring down in Dunchurch...about an hour to the north west

I check a few different sites. Most of the ones I use are saying no rain all week. Turftrax says dry until Friday (or it did last night). Going map there is as it was after last week's rain, Soft all over except for the heavy bits on the x-country course. Probably G-S again by Wednesday. 5.6 on the going stick doesn't seem too bad.
