Cheltenham - Non Festival Meets

From what Nicholls said this morning, and that he has top weight, Frodon has a lot to do today and they are not expecting him to do it. That being the thinking he, Frodon, will not doubt go and defy everything but Nicholls is expecting this to bring him on.
I really, really hope this season they let him have a go at the Gold Cup.

PFN puts us all away again

I love Bryony...that was absolutely awesome. What a horse......he HAS to go for the Gold Cup, how can be and she be denied?
Shows that even a trainer as good as Nicholls can learn something new every day watching their horses.

I said two years ago he was a Gold Cup contender (and backed him at 33/1 NRNB for it as well as 12/1 for the Ryanair) but Nicholls seemed to give up on the idea at the time and last year's campaign seemed to confirm that. He's young enough to still have a little bit of improvement in him but, again, last season suggested otherwise.

Would I back him for the Gold Cup now? No, but I wouldn't rule out a change of heart!

What the hell do I know.

I can’t stand Bryony but that was impressive by the horse.

Shame about that :). When I watch all those jockeys’ heads bobbing about and then see Byony’s stock still I think she adds an awful lot to a horse’s balance and rhythm just because she herself can sit so quiet and balanced. You never know, you might grow to like her if she keeps booting them home!

PS: The horse dun great, too.

Bryony is an asset to any horse imo. And a truly delightful person.

Had a proper blonde 48 hours. First didn’t realise Cheltenham was on ITV yesterday so completely missed it and had really wanted to see Fusil Raffles. Then today, I set TV to record as I was Pointing, come home and realised I set it to record Opening Show. Damn and blast it!

You probably know [about] her more than us, jinnyj, but I think she's brilliant for promoting the sport.

She comes across on TV as totally honest and enthusiastic. If it's an act it's a brilliant one. If it's genuine it's compelling viewing.

I just felt the interviewers failed to ask one very important question. Did the horse feel like an improved animal this season?

Not quite a Rouge Vif performance but simply fvcking brilliant to watch.

Laid him IR at 3.5 and for 2 places at 6/4 so I beg to differ, it was far from brilliant in my front room.

I guess he's a grade 1 horse, I think I still have emnity for the thing as a holdover from the Ryanair.

Then again, I was hoping some of the opposition would turn up. Fvcking Cloth Cap. God I hate that stable. My bad.

Leaving aside the financial pain, Euro, wouldn't you concede that it was just brilliant to watch him take a length out of just about everything at each and every fence? Surely that's what NH racing is all about?

My bet on him was peanuts compared to when I'm able to read the form and get stuck right into something with confidence but after just a few fences I was taken by how he was travelling and jumping. I would have won far more on Sensulano given the price I got but forgot all about her early in the race and just kept focusing on an exhibition performance.

Frodon did something fairly remarkable when winning a handicap from a mark of 164 last season - that doesn’t happen often - and he attempts it again today over what is unquestionably his less preferred trip.

Race sort of fell apart but he/she causes that with the rhythm they set. Fantastic horse who’s a throwback to some of my favourites such as the Captain trained Dublin Flyer and Pegwell Bay

Wish I’d backed him.

See the concentration on her face, she presents her rides beautifully at the fences too.

Always good to see her jocked up on a horse I want to back. Especially a front running chaser she always seems to get them into a great rhythm

She's a fantastic TV ambassador for the sport.

She can in one enthusiastic reply give the sport more appeal than the entire ITV team can in a three-hour programme.

Not sure what thread to put this in but was nice to see Don Poli seemingly enjoying himself until he ran out of gas.

Yorkhill is sadly gone at the game, needs retiring unfortunately. What a horse he could have been.

I'm not sure he enjoyed himself. He was driven to challenge a long way from home and quite hard ridden to go clear. No surprise to see him weaken later. I wonder how long it might take him to get over it.

Yes and me and my horse racing friends said I was mad. I was utterly convinced the GC was there for the taking 2 years ago and they should have gone for it but Nicholls thought it had what was a sure thing and bottled it. I really hope they both get there in one piece, and really hope we mere mortals are allowed to go and watch. I'd back them now and the last time I had ante post bet was when Amberleigh House won the National.
