A good meeting at the Curragh on Sunday, including a Group 2 and two Group 3 races.

In the Royal Whip and the Desmond Stakes it is difficult to oppose Dermot Weld's entrants, Casual Conquest and Famous Name. In the sprint, course specialist Benbaun, Vocalised who hasn't been out since the French guineas, and Heart Shaped are among the contenders.

Torrential rain has turned the ground heavy. Lord Admiral is out of the Royal Whip and Benbaun rated a very doubtful runner in the Sprint. They're probably be other non runners. The connections of Curtain Call shouldn't be too disappointed.

Big fan of Doncaster Rover but he's not been missed by the bookies and punters (also needs it to be pretty quick to be at his best) and I think Icelandic represents some value, 6f on an easy surface are his optimum conditions and 9/1 is a very generous price.

Perfect Polly and Snaefell look decent E/W prices at 8's to me against the favourite in the Phoenix Sprint.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see Perfect Polly reverse the Sweet Mimosa form with Giroutte, given that the Ryan horse met trouble in running on a day that it seemed to pay to race prominently.

Snaefell is something of a standing dish over 6f with cut in the ground, just being run out of it by Perfect Polly over 5f at Tipperary last time out (though he always looked held by Perfect polly to me). Both will likely have to step up on that form to beat Vocalised, though I'm far from convinced that 6f on testing ground will prove ideal for the Bolger horse.

Promising start by James Ryan, who has done well with Perfect Polly and Qeyaada in the same silks. Can anyone give me some background info on this guy please?
