David Davis Resigns!

I've always had a huge mount of respect for the man, and imo it was a massive mistake to elect Cameron leader instead of Davies. I wonder what will become of his career now :what:

Publicity stunt with a dangerous precedent (but could be a decent tactic) all it requires is for one opposition MP to resign 'on principle' (provided they're in safe seat) and turn the by election into a quasi referendum. Labout would be stpuid to stand a candidate, although I note the 'Sun' are standing Kelvin McKenzie. If I were a Labour strategist I wouldn't even entertain the idea.

Cant get my head around this at all

I dont quite agree Warbler, that its a dangerous precedent. I just cant weigh it up...

Always thought he was a bit odd and its no secret that he doesnt get on with Dave

I suspect the public will just see it as attention seeking tahts got out of control

The responses to one of the articles [Martin's] on the DT site are approx 09% in favour, and well worth reading

Someone also mentions that BBC Political Ed Nick Robinson's blog mentions that the BBC has been completely inundated with messages of support. I think the journo/political elite is well out of touch on this

Thoughtful leader in the DT today on the background to and implications of this

As the great Libertarian John Stuart Mill remarked many years ago:

"The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant."

"There is also something quintessentially British about the defence of personal liberties, given the amount of blood spilt over the centuries to obtain and preserve them."

What the ****? shrug::

I thought Michael Portillo said something interesting the other day when he commented that the Conservatives had shown their libetarian approach rather than their Authoratarian approach.
