;) As Diminuendo is an extremely modest person, I think it only right to draw the forum's attention to a real achievement she has made in her professional career as a photographer. She is commissioned by Weatherbys to provide photographs for the BetTrends section of their website and that is a pretty high accolade as to the quality of her photographs!

Whilst not posted by Dimuendo, i'm not sure how this is in the interests of the forum, tbh, especially given the outrage at plugs by David Dent.

Well, I'm interested! :) She has been a long time contributor to the forum and a lot of us have followed her career, even encouraging her to go professional because the quality of the pictures which she shared with the forum were superb. So I believe it is relevant and good to see that one of the forum has done well. She has worked very hard and made such progress in a short time.

It validates our thoughts that she was good enough to turn professional.

Also, those people who enjoy photographs may still be intrested in seeing it.

I'm personally interested in the new addition to the Weatherbys site as I run a point to pointer and belong to the Weatherby's site. Last season it was not that good, lacked decent reporting and photographs and was mostly out of date. They have just revamped it and stepped into the present century. It's worthwhile reading.

Thanks for posting Songsheet.

Hamm - just where is it that I have expressed outrage at David Dent's posts, please? I don't think I have and, bearing in mind the considerable leeway many others on here have been given over blatant promotion of themselves in the past as racing managers, plugs for individual trainers, website designers, potential jockey agents etc etc, why this particular post should be singled out is beyond me. Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain the difference to me and a few others who no doubt find your post baffling ?

Thanks.

I was not one of those outraged by Dave Dent's contributions to this forum. Even so, a significant difference is that Diminuendo's career was quite closely connected with this forum in its early stages. She used to share a lot of her work on here and the enthusiastic reception she got encouraged her to keep going.

I, for one, am delighted to see her career progressing.

And for the sake of clarity, Isinglass and Gray's comments are precisely why I made the post and sum it up perfectly.

What the difference is between posting about Dim's success and, say, me or anyone else on here posting up a win by a horse I bred (commercially I would remind you) for example or maybe anyone reporting the birth of a foal from one of their mares or even a racing partnership (rightly in my opinion before anyone thinks I have a problem with that!) rejoicing in one of their horse's wins and thereby perhaps gaining a new syndicate member as a result, needs explaining by the moderators.

Songsheet - where did I say it was you who expressed outrage at David Dent? I inferred it was on a wider scale, which is what it was.

So, if a person posts on a forum from sometime back, it's okay for them to be plugged, but if they don't, a different rule applies?

This is nothing against Diminuendo, or his/her talent at photography, btw.

While we’re at it (...since no one will do this on my behalf) I’m available for birthdays, barmitzvahs, social gatherings and conferences – for anything, nothing too big or too small… all requests entertained. Reasonable rates... :innocent:

Its brilliant isnt it - I love the way I can spot some photographers work a mile away, and hers is definately one of those (in a good way I hasten to add!!) though I guess she spoils us on the forums,so we see more.

Cant get enough of it though - and yes Come on Dims - blow your own trumpet more!!! :<3::<3:

Hamm - if I were you, I'd let the actual membership express any outrage they may experience after reading my post if they feel it's a blatant piece of spamming. For someone who is supposedly trying to ensure a smooth, untroubled forum atmosphere, your response was a pretty good example on one designed to be controversial and it would have been better left unsaid.

Miller - if that means you're buying the champagne again, your rates are very reasonable and you're hired.... ;)

Agreed. Well done Diminuendo!!

Hamm let me explain.......

I have been a member of this forum for some years. Some of the members on here have always been totally supportive of my work, especially from the get go. Uncle Goober and I have contributed hundreds of photographs to this forum and sadly they were all gobbled up with the old forum. I don't know how many of you remember the thread that UG and I did covering the Cheltenham Festival, but it was a huge hit with the members on here. It was a wonderful gallery of so many favourite horses and scenes.
I have returned to this forum after having a year off from it , but I still looked in to read.
I really don't know what the problem is as Songsheet says its ok for others to post up links to their fansites and clientele. As I see it my photographic roots were embedded on this forum and Songsheet just wanted to let others know where I am 3 years into turning pro. I am happy to post some pics up again, in fact I might even do that very soon.:D

P.S I would love to thank so many people but it would start to sound like a This Is Your Life episode, but you know who you all are.

I don't think there's really much of an issue in truth. Col has always permitted one plug by way of introduction, and that's pretty clearly understood. There is a greyer area where some people are cut more slack dependent on their contribution to wider debate and the forum etc I'm sure Diminuendo would fall within that category. To some extent there's a bit of a trade off.

Let me use Cantoris by way of an illustration. He's kept us up to date with Brave Inca and his other horses, always been open and answered questions etc he used his syndicates name to help co-sponsor the race with Talking Horses, and I'm sure no one would want to lose these insights in the name of spamming? In fairness, Cantoris might be a bad example as he very rarely (if ever) plugs the syndicate, but under the circumstances no one would begrudge him the odd name drop I'm sure in return for his contribution, which is almost exclusively about horse racing (unlike one of the names mentioned).

Similarly Flame has been a prolific contributor in terms of volume and information, and we'd normally accept that if he wants to draw attention to any jockey whose done something well that might have a degree of commercial interest in it for him, then again we'd accept that.

There is a line however, (well it's not really a line as such) it's more of a fuzzy area that shifts about it, I suppose its a bit of no mans land. People who start to push their own self-interests (or use proxys to do it for them) can over step this boundary occasionally, and it's almost impossible to apply a blanket rule to everyone as there needs to be a degree of common sense and give and take dependent on the circumstances. The issue probably revolves around frequency and relevance and in this case I'm not too concerned in truth, and in the interests of not starting another completely unecessary escalation of a non-issue I suggest we put it to bed at that.

That would be a sensible compromise - How about "Diminuendo's Progress" ??

I'm sure you're right, Warbler - only whatever it is you're right about has got lost in translation as far as I'm concerned. I genuinely thought virtually everyone on here would be pleased and delighted about how far Dim's has come but I guess as Hamm is a latecomer to this forum, unlike many of us who have been here since its inception, he wouldn't know the history.

anyway, back to what this all about and really delighted for Dims. AS said, she shared so much of her excellent work with us, and great to see her getting some reward!

keep up the good work, Dims, and I really hope I win the Comp :)))))))

xx

You make a decent point there.

I think it does matter actually and different rules may apply.

First of all I feel that Songsheets post was not so much a plug for Dims work, but a congrats from the forum which encouarged her and watched her progress, and along the way enjoyed a lot of free photos which we would otherwise have had to pay someone for.

The same goes for Uncle Goober who most of us know and who has always been very geneorus with his photos.

Secondly if someone joined the forum today and immediately posted plugs for themselves, and generally did not seem to join in the other posts, then yes, agree that this would seem out of order. (As was the case with David Dent).

I think that the forum ought to be open to people telling us what they do, as long as they do not constantly bang on about it. It's a fine line, but it adds to the weight of the forum that we have people in IT, law, Bloodstock, media etc on here.

Anyone on this forum who could not be happy for the success of someone who has been a contributor for a long time would have to be a very mean person indeed! Life is just too short not to celebrate the success of those you know.

In addition since someone put the Weatherbys article up on another thread it does seem to be in the interest of clarity for it to be pointed out whose photos they were. It is useful information - now I know who to buy them from!

That is a very good point Isinglass. I saw that post and its nice to see that the new site is getting noticed. There should be report on the Ditcheat press day going up very soon if it isn't already there.

Of course it’s okay to congratulate Dims on this. What is unnecessary is all of this soul-searching about it.

Don't ask me, Miller - a moderator started all this off and it's only on this forum that such a reaction has been generated. Identical posts on FF and Atacanta have simply resulted in everyone being very happy for Tracy...
