Apologies if there is a thread already.

What’s everybody fancying?

The Champion Hurdle, Cant have Honeysuckle what so ever. I do keep writing her off though, and she does keep winning.
Im dreading this, but I’m going Saint Roi. More in hope of recouping some of the money in what is my biggest loser in racing to date. Though my luck hasn’t changed much since.

Hoping for a nice run from Abadcadbras, be suprised if Saturdays the day given the illness recently.

Irish Gold Up - Praying for a big run from Melon, i just want to see him in the Gold Cup (66s)
Minella Indo i think wins though. Though it could be one of them races were 16/1 Storyteller wins it.

Rest of the races SHOULD be pretty straight forward (barring handicaps)

The handicap races are the ones ill be keeping a keen eye on. Plot jobs blowing marks, plot jobs getting marks.
Great weekends racing, one im very much looking forward to.

Outside of the Festival itself, this is the best meeting of the year bar none.

I’ve also gone in with Saint Roi, though you’d have to think it’s the last-chance-saloon for him, insofar as any Champion Hurdle pretensions are concerned.

Chacun is a lock.

I’m hoping Youmdor stakes his Triumph claim in the Spring Juvenile.

I’ll be disappointed if Minella Indo doesn’t win the Irish Gold Cup. Novicey fall last time, and I think he’s straightforward a better horse than the rest of them.

I just hope JP/Mullins let Unexcepted go forward in the Irish Arkle, and that he puts up another sparkling jumping effort.

I fully expect to do my fu*cking brains in the handicaps.

Talk of a change of tactics with melon. Likely to be ridden more conservatively, which I think might mean they don't get the advantage of his jumping.

Also forgiving Felix Desjy his strange run at Xmas in the Arkle.

I was gonna back Abas in the CH but the ground is a concern.

Delta Work is overpriced in the Gold Cup but expect Minella Indo will win.

In these restricted times, this is like a junkies shot of heroin to the veins

If the festival was one week later, we would probably be frozen off given the predicted week ahead

I can't wait

Gutted not to be there, particularly for Kemboy Sunday, but no complaints as it could be so so much worse. Absolutely agree with Grassy this weekend is the best there is outside of the 4 days in the Cotswolds and include Punchestown in that. Amazing to think how successful it’s become in a short time and what a great idea to combine the two days, whoever’s that was

On the punting side, I’ve had very little time recently to get stuck into the racing, so no strong views and it will probably be just a few muggy short price multis and feet up at home with a Guinness or 6 for me…

I've had a look through the card and it's definitely a good one but I can't help thinking some will be leaving something in the locker for Cheltenham.

1.05 - I think Gaillard du Mesnil might be a bit short for one who has picked up a couple of maiden races. With a top OR in the race of 146, you have to imagine a few of these will improve 10lbs on what we've seen to have a remote chance in the Ballymore. I can see me dutching Ashdale Bob and Fakiera against him.

1.35 - I suppose this is where we find out if the likes of Notebook can bridge the novice-to-established gap. The big two are obviously genuinely top class but I'm not sure 4/9 and 4/1 accurately reflects how close they are so I might go for Min as being slightly over-priced. I fancy Sizing Pottsie to outrun his 25/1 price but with only two places on offer can't justify backing him.

2.10 - Energumene was impressive last time but I'm not convinced Captain Guinness has been asked a serious question so far this season. Cheltenham might be the real target but I'm willing to take a pop at him here at around 8/1.

3.15 - I wouldn't want to be taking 11/8 Honeysuckle. I'm not convinced she can beat Sharjah even getting the weight. If Aba can make the normal 10lbs improvement into his second season he would be involved but I question his guts. Saint Roi could also improve to get his Champion hopes back on track but I do think Sharjah will be very difficult to beat.

I'll finalise my handicap short-lists in the morning.

You never quite know what you're going to get from the Shunter but he's undeniably well handicapped on his chase mark of 132 after running away with the Greatwood off only 4lb lower over hurdles.

I'd be worried if the ground got really testing but the chase course is currently looking better than the hurdles course, with yielding in places, and the persistent rain that was forecast for over the weekend is now described as showers.

The extended 2 miles in this race will take some getting which should him perfectly as a strongly run stiff 2+ miles are his optimum and I've taken 8/1 5 places in the hope that the prize is significantly big enough to see him on a going day.

SSSSHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

;)

Funny you should say that, with this horse he's either off or not and I was tempted with win only for that reason but bottled it as he could be off but there's normally a handful in these races that have been hiding their true marks

Horse will be off.

3.50 Leopardstown

Blue Sari off 140.

My lord. Will it be tomorrow? or ‘coming on for the run’ in the County? Absolutely chucked in

Steady on now Yes it's well hanidcapped in theory but it fell apart over hurdles and no real reason why and has been out for over a year. Not exactly a bargain at 14/1.

What is the feeling on the form of the Elliot yard?

Obviously they were awful at xmas, should we expect a big improvement from those that seemed too bad to be true last time?

I think it depends on the horse. Abacadabras will be better suited to a Champion Hurdle with a fast pace so may need the run whereas a small field GC here rather than a big field version at Cheltenham is preferable for Delta Work and so a horse like that is more likely to be cherry ripe now rather than March
