Eurovision....

My friend and I watched it tonight. We were absolutely dumbfounded by some of the performances tonight. Amen to alcohol I say!

Some real surprises for me tonight.

* Bosnia & Herzegovina. Its very much like watching Serbia's performance in Turkey in 2004. Its all the same, very typical Yugoslavian style, big Balkan drums. However the composer of Bosnia, Zeljko did sing that wonderful piece in 2004. I like traditional forms of lyric, and that is what had me won. Hari Mata Hari was arguably the best vocally, and I'd love to see him and his band win. Bosnia have definitely redeemed themselves after a miserable performance in 2005, as well in 2004.

* Finland. They are either going to be loved or hated, and I readily admit they were amongst my favourites tonight. I had to have two bottles of Vodka Cruiser to come to terms with this lot. The pyrotechnics, the costumes, the whole lot was brilliant. From the bat wings being lifted up until the fireworks spiralled out of here there and every where. My best mate thinks these ones will win. We both agreed, if they do, we are heading to Finland for Eurovision in 2007.

* Ukraine - I wrote her off, and regret that I had. It was good (without being great), and extremely catchy. I don't she has any chance of winning, but definitely deserves to be in the finals.

I didn't mind Lithuania (god bless satire and democracy honestly!); Netherland and Albania.

The two standouts being Sweden and Ireland.

The finals, well as much as I hate country and westen rubbish, I will be barracking heavily for Germany. Afterall the lead female singer is Australian, and they are a dynamic group. Extremely unique for this competition.

Anyway before I head off I think its between Sweden and Romania.

Great to see our very own Euronymous helping out gallant little Finland: terrific stuff, and I LOVE those boots, Euro - recycled from old Skodas, I hear?

We got Patrick O'Connell as the presenter last night, Wogan supposedly on Sunday night. Gees this Patrick O'Connell bloke was brilliant. It was seriously like he had walked off the street, been chucked in to the hot seat and asked to commentate the show. It was all bland, dry and left of field, totally random.
My friend and I loved it, pure British humour at its succulent best.

Normally I wouldn't rate the UK's chances but I took 25s about 'our' entry this year. It's a lot better (in a eurovision context) than the winning song by that Katrina bint a few years back.

If I end up watching the programme, I might add the one I like the most before the voting starts.

Well pretty much every song I've heard so far is utterly woeful, but thats a pre-requisite for entering the competition.

Ukraine's impressed me in the context of the competition, and I've had a few quid on @ 30's.

I took a handful of euros on Spain winning...

...the last place market.
It would be difficult as Portugal is sure to give us a few points, but it´s worth the bet.

Eurovision is a pile of shite. I can't believe anyone willingly sits through the entire broadcast. Yes, that includes you, Kirsty!!!!!! :P

Have just watched five minutes and can't take any more ...................

(And I had foolishly imagined that the bird with the accordion would be playing it - well, maybe she was, but not in a musical sense  )

Do songs have to be original? I presume "hip hop" music may be similar to dance music in that the beats or whatever are all the same but the British song sounds almost identical to Song For Lovers by Reverend Run + Liberty X.

This finish tune is quite good.

Romania, UK and Finland for me. Dance, rap and heavy metal, what diversity!
Sir Wogan is brillaint as always!!!

I have a sneaking suspicion that ze Germans are going to do snell , I mean well!!!

Bingo.

I turned in as the Spanish song was beginning. It was the worst thing I have ever heard. I laid it at 350 on BF halfway through the 'performance'.

Well, apart from the UK - easily the best song on the night - I was adamant (after a fair amount of libation) Russia would be in the top three. Toolate to get a meaningful bet on.

Finland is crap but I keep forgetting this is Eurovision!

There is zero subtlety to how bent and regionally/politically biased the voting is.

DIGRACEFUL SHYTE.
