It is a bit of a mystery. Hypothetically, it could add up if the assailant is tanked up and hyped up and indeed a bit scared. Not sure why anyone would try to get ahead of the law in tackling trespassers? I imagine lampers are a nuisance, but they are no threat to horses at that time of night? Only rabbits.

I'd be fairly confident that Law enforcement is exclusively the Police's job, no matter how chequered their record is at it.

Dispensing your own brand of justice, even on your own land, isn't the ticket in the post-Victorian era, a concept many in racing struggle with to this day.
