These two were both brilliant 2m chasers although Remittance Man was probably at his absolute best over 2m 4f.

It's a shame that race was his last victory, injury really prevented him from being remembered as a one of the great 2m - 2m 4f chasers. He would have won more than one Champion Chase without his leg problems.

I don't know what Timeform rating RM ended up with but I bet he's rated lower than a lot of chasers that he would have hammered at his best.

The year Mick Fitz fell on RM in 2 mile Chase affected Fitzy and NJH deeply.
Poor Mick did not know what or how it happened.
One of the great horses no doubt.

My first visit to the Festival was to see Remittance Man run in the 1994 Champion Chase.

Fitz should have sat tight going to three-out. He was on the best jumper of a fence in training, but managed to put RM on the deck by only half-asking him for a big one......the useless twat.

I think those were my exact words too at the time and also those of my mates. Fortunately the Flagship saved the day handsomely for me.

I think that was the first time Fitz had ridden RM in a race
