Unfortunately I am in a situation where either me or my closest colleague will be made redundant or sacked.
Tough titty Dude. We'll let you know how it goes.

That's really shitty, Luke - sorry to hear it.
I recommend dropping an Eastern-European scud mag, and a couple of baggies of ching into his desk-drawer, when he isn't looking.....and waiting patiently for the HR gendarmes to pitch-up.
Can't believe that this is the first year I can remember that I've not gone. It's starting to hurt now. Are their still tickets for the Tuesday?
What's the best route from the course to the Plough? Can you get though via the car park past the Best Mate enclosure or do you need to walk down the main road?
The quickest way is to walk around the side of the course . This is accessed from the coach car park , on the other side of the bestmate stand. Its a nice 10 min dander and gets you up close to the fences and trainers and jockeys walking the course. After 600-700m you turn right and head across a field which is a right of way, you arrive at a little cul de sac . Walk straight up the road to a cross roads and go straight on to the Mill Rd . The Plough is 200 m up on the left hand side. Go out the back where the picnic tables are and look for a very small Scotsman, a mad Irishman called Paddy, and a know it all Englishman called Paul , the Welsh brigade don't arrive until after the races(Roddy and his minders) .
Ps If you hear a tall Scottish ponce crying that he got some mud on his shoes you know you are very close.
Its worth the effort for the craic Perp.
