Festival Meet

The quickest way is to walk around the side of the course . This is accessed from the coach car park , on the other side of the bestmate stand. Its a nice 10 min dander and gets you up close to the fences and trainers and jockeys walking the course. After 600-700m you turn right and head across a field which is a right of way, you arrive at a little cul de sac . Walk straight up the road to a cross roads and go straight on to the Mill Rd . The Plough is 200 m up on the left hand side. Go out the back where the picnic tables are and look for a very small Scotsman, a mad Irishman called Paddy, and a know it all Englishman called Paul , the Welsh brigade don't arrive until after the races(Roddy and his minders) .

Ps If you hear a tall Scottish ponce crying that he got some mud on his shoes you know you are very close.

Its worth the effort for the craic Perp.
Cheers Frontrunner and will make a real effort to get there Tues or Wed after racing

Picture of the new stand (by Ben Hastie, one of Cheltenham's ground staff) There is room for 3,000 on the steps and the first floor will have a temporary bar just for the Festival with over 150 loos

We're usually there for around 10:30, and head for the track around mid-day.

I can do the walk back in my sleep these days - it's just not recommended to do it in the dark when hoovered for your first go! Maruco tried to guide me and Digger in via mobile phone, and we were in nearly every back garden in Prestbury.

Ok. We come in that direction as stay out past Winchcombe, so will either stop off on the way in one day or after racing but via the road. I'll be the one in a brown Barbour carrying a Racing Post:)

If Samuel Beckett had written this thread we'd be on a shortlist for a Nobel Prize.

I will try decipher what is going on and meet you somewhere. Eddie's seat in the Centaur sounds nice.

Digger and myself will be in The Plough in Prestbury at around 10:30 on Tuesday morning, if anyone fancies meeting for a gargle (and a lecture about Hurricane Fly's impeccable Champion Hurdle pretensions), before racing. I will be resplendent in a fetching moss-green covert coat (with blue-velvet collar) and Digger will, I expect, be decked-out in his customary sock-and-deely-boppers get-up. We will be in the garden out back - Digger may also have covered himself in honey.

For on-track, I suggest those that are interested muster outside the Mandarin Bar, near the steps (for those without Club) at around 12:45. We might even be able to squeeze in a drink before the first. Just sketch about for any dopey-looking bas*tards, and it's probably us.

If it all falls apart, the upstairs bar in The Centaur after racing, sounds like a good rendezvous.

Ill be in my normal place by the bar in the Mandarin, Look forward to seeing you all again and
have to give the rugby tickets to Grey

I love threads like this, shows how friendly people on the forum are especially as (presumably) most people wouldn't have ever met if it wasn't for this (or other) forums

I might try to get there next year seeing as I've never been and never met anyone from here lol :)

Just had a quick look at ticket prices, most seem to be cheaper if they are booked as a group of 15+ would it be an idea to try to do that next year , assuming they are sent out as individual tickets rather than one ticket for 15?

I shall go and beat myself about the shins with a chair leg, for such a grammatical faux-pas, AC.

Thank you for pointing it out - it will not happen again.

We won't get to the Plough pre-racing. Will try & make the Centaur after the last & our taxi is booked to collect us from the Plough at 9.00, so hopefully see some of you along the way...

I shall be on the gallops Tue 8am the latest in my NH special *1970s style Lord Vestey /Julian Wilson "should it please Your Majesty " tweed jacket* complete with faux swede elbow patches and compulsory hip flask in inner pocket ! See you there hopefully for the best fun of the week.

Normally chaps we meet in the Plough also after racing rather than the centaur. Which seems a new introduction. Are we not going to the Plough after racing
