Films

Okey-dokey, I just wanted to test the water on it. I find there are so many films and crime series churning out rape after rape after rape, that it's almost seen as some sort of entertainment norm. 'Two Women' with Sophia Loren probably set a vivid standard for showing the disorientation, the disbelief, of a woman and her young daughter who are savagely attacked and raped. If the subject is handled as well as in that film, so that it is seen for what it is, not reduced to a casual side reference or gratuitous sexual imagery, then it probably serves some purpose. But as it's a sordid, befouling experience for those unfortunate enough to suffer it, I feel it's not something to be cheapened by commercial repetition.

Kathy, if you liked the film, and it is very good, you must try the books by Robert Ludlum. They are so much better than the film.
Thanks PDJ, I will!

I have just watched the Le Conseguenze dell'amore. A very stylishly shot film with a soundtrack to match. A testament to the film would be that it is captivating without an awful lot really happening. Refreshingly, you have to draw your own conclusions/opinions about why the lead character is acting as he is, without the director feeling the need to spoon-feed to you.

Thought provoking in a very different way to the film I mentioned above!

Bedknobs and Broomsticks - fab to see it again on DVD and my god-daughter loved it too

Saw 'The New World' tonight, absolutely breathtaking. As one reviewer wrote, I'm truly glad to live in a world that gives up a Terrence Malick film every five or six years.

(An Capall was pretty good in it too).

Went to see Walk The Line last night. Thought it was top class in every sense. Well acted (wow impressed with Reece W), well directed and great music. Well worth seeing it on the big screen.

I also watched this film very recently.
I like it quite much.

About Resee Witherspoon.
I had not seen her in any film before but I think she was superb in this film, she signs very well.

I will watch her next films and maybe she could reach my number 3 or 4 in my favorite actress list.

Cinema Paradiso is a very simple and touching film about a film maker remembering his childhood, its italian with sub titles but well worth seeing.
I thought that The talented Mr Ripley was entertaining .
Rabbitproof fence is another simple story with extraordinary acting from the young cast, Whale Rider is another with exceptional acting and a good storyline.
Anything with Ray Winston in it but thats my personal preference .

I watched a good old film recently called The lonelieness of the long distance runner.

Watched two films over the weekend

O Brother Where Art Thou as triptych mentioned earlier it's well worth a watch.

Derailed good thriller and another worth watching.

One worth a miss in my opinion is Hostel
