At the Start
Yeah, you are right. Looked it up and it's something like £395.00! Doesn't sound like it is memoirs either, a kind of photo album. Will be beautiful I am sure, James has impeccable taste, but way out of most of his fans price brackets. Including mine!
I had a fantastic life, just wish I'd been a little bit older so that I might have made more of it. I thought everybody lived like that, did not occur to me at the time that I was doing anything incredible. Sigh.
I loved Marriot too, Small Faces were one of the first bands I followed. And The Who. Marriot had such a big voice and was so tiny himself. By the time I got to see him he was in Humble Pie. Such a shame he died the way he did too. So many booze related deaths.
I was in England being a nanny when The Who did The Kids Are Alright at Shepperton and I got to go to rehearsals. Apart from being soul destroying watching Moon disintegrate before my eyes, it was fabulous to see them. They were messing about one night and launched into a version of Tin Soldier. Sadly no one was recording this ..... just have memories.
I always had a soft spot for British bands, only liked a few US ones. My older sister ran away from home in the 70's to the deep south and became a Southern Belle. She shacked up with red neck rock n roll royalty and she was a firm defender of The Allman Brothers, Lynard Skinnard and the like. I saw them many times and could get into it, and Johnny and Edgar Winter - but always preferred sounds from across the sea.
Another one I loved was Rory Gallagher, such a shame about his death.
Back on Zep - have you heard Robert's son? I keep meaning to go and see him, looks a lot like him, very spooky to watch.
