Tomorrow:

Race:tote.co.uk Supporting Racing Ormonde Stakes (Group 3)
Your comment:#30 - needed his race last time and not pressed at all. Should run up to it next time.

Looked a good prospect when winning the Chester Vase here on last season's return. After a couple of lesser efforts, back on track when successful in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury prior to a find second in the St Leger. Respected with his reappearance run behind him.

Intrigued that Ryan Moore swerved Kempton and the Curragh yesterday, to ride Capulet at Chelmsford.
Clearly well thougt of, he was outpaced over this sharpish 1m and looks one to note in future, (has a Dante entry, plus both Derbys)

Justify colt who landed a Dundalk maiden (1m) on debut in August and stepped up on that when placed in pair of Group 2 events. Not at best when third behind Bracken's Laugh at Chelmsford (1m) 33 days ago but step up in trip worth exploring now and yard have a fine record in this race.

I thought Due For Luck was a tad unfortunate at Chester today (2:35). He was slowly away and the advantage of the low draw (2) was lost and became a disadvantage far back on the rails. Started challenge 1f out had to switch and finished very strongly in last 1/2f to go down by a neck and short head. A costly start.
And I backed it at 11/1. Very frustrating.

Results from above.

CAPULET - WON 7/2 - back on turf, proved suited by the step up to this trip and showed a good attitude and improved form to reverse reappearance AW placings with the runner-up. There's enough in his pedigree to think he'll stay 1m4f but he'll have to raise his game if he's to become the first to follow up in the Derby since Kris Kin. Betfair cut him to 14-1 (from 33-1) for the Epsom Classic, with the French Derby also an option.RP

ARREST - 2nd 11/4 - Arrest won last season's Vase but that was on deep ground and this big, heavy horse, who displays a pronounced knee action, was always likely to find this drying ground against him. He ran okay despite not looking in love with the track and is the sort to come into his own in the autumn. There's still a bigger effort in him.RP

Post comment:# 29 - Global Skies. This one is out of a STS mare yet ran over 7 1/2 last week at Beverley. Lost ground at the start and was detached from the body of the field. Finished really well and obv needs much further.

Haydock maiden winner in September. Decent third at Beverley on return/handicap bow and looks ready for the step up in trip.

Went close in a similar event over C&D last summer and bounced back to best with headgear discarded when ¾-length second of 9 to Zero Carbon in handicap at Kempton (7f) last month, having to pick way through straight. Headgear back on and he's a must for the shortlist.

€2,000,000 yearling who was an excellent 4-5 in his juvenile season, most impressive when easily landing a 1m Newmarket Group 3 in October before ending his campaign with Group 1 glory in the Futurity at Doncaster (1m, heavy). Will be suited by 1¼m. Hard to beat. starstarstarstarstar

Cracking servant to connections who has looked as good as ever this spring, runner-up on each of his last 2 starts in competitive Newmarket handicaps at up to 9f. Mark has crept up a little more ahead of this but he's the type to continue in form.starstarstar

Useful 1m/9.5f winner in Ireland for Ray Cody last summer. Changed hands for 47,000 guineas and shaped well for his new yard when third of 20 in the Lincoln at Doncaster on his return. Disappointed in Spring Cup since and another who could possibly do with the rain arriving. starstarstar

Results from above:

Ancient Wisdom - 2nd 7/4f - revelled in testing conditions when winning the Group 1 Futurity Trophy last October and he just wasn't as effective on this sounder surface, for all that his rider said he handled it. He has the look of a proper 1m4f horse, one who will appreciate getting back on some slower ground, and he'd appeal more as an Irish Derby type than one for Epsom, unless of course the ground came up testing. The same stable has current Derby favourite Arabian Crown primed for Epsom.RP

Dutch Decoy - 11th 11/2 - up 2lb following two really good runner-up efforts at Newmarket, failed to give his running.RP

Navagio - non-runner

Winner of 7f novice events at Chelmsford and Lingfield towards the end of 2023 (well beaten in AW listed race in France in between). Sound fourth on reappearance over C&D, for all she looked quite hard work.

Results:

ARISAIG 3rd 11/4jf - Arisaig didn't shape much better than the bare result but she's building up a solid profile and, while she has a mixed pedigree, it would be no surprise if she stayed further.RP
ROCK OPERA 4th/5 11/4 -
Rock Opera, back on his last winning mark, was briefly short of room, but couldn't quicken when asked to do so. He'll presumably drop another few pounds before his next appearance.RP

Off 15 months after her debut but proved herself a useful prospect when winning at Newcastle in January. Took a step forward returned to turf when second of 6 in handicap at Redcar (10f, soft, 13/8), showing a likeable attitude in defeat, and she's less exposed than most here.

Koy Koy was going well and was worst affected by the argy bargy, it was a blanket finish and he would have been part of it I think.

An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong, involving the winner CARRYTHEONE, ridden by Pat Dobbs, RAINBOW FIRE (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Neil Callan, DARKNESS (FR), placed fifth, ridden by Jason Watson and KOY KOY, placed sixth, ridden by Billy Loughnane. The interference was found to be accidental as RAINBOW FIRE (IRE), shifted marginally left-handed, as CARRYTHEONE, in a legitimate gap, lugged quickly left-handed, causing KOY KOY to be short of room and become unbalanced, turning the quarters of DARKNESS (FR), resulting in Watson having to take a check.
Following the race Billy Loughnane reported that KOY KOY, placed sixth, suffered interference in running.

Fair form when fifth on qualifying run at Wolverhampton (7f) in November and, having been gelded, he showed further improvement to score readily on handicap debut at Yarmouth (1m) 3 weeks ago. Could do with brushing up his starts but likely there's more to come.

Results:

Navagio - 5th/9 11/2 - Navagio stayed on late, despite having failed to settle, clearly well suited by the return to soft ground with this more in keeping with his Lincoln placing.RP

Zipster - 5th/9 11/4 - Zipster, raised 6lb for his Yarmouth win, was below that form. This was his first experience of soft ground though, so it could pay to give him another chance in less-testing conditions.RP

Bit late for today, sorry.

Won a 6f course novice on soft last autumn. Faded into sixth in Newbury handicap on reappearance but back on the up when narrowly denied in 6f Chester handicap 17 days ago, finishing well. Raised 4 lb for that but it shouldn't leave him handicapped out of things.

Much improved when off the mark at Redcar (6f) in September but went the wrong way from an encouraging return when down the field at Newmarket (7f, good) 21 days ago. Others preferred.

Two from today so far, both at Goodwood where zero luck in running means they go straight into the tracker:

Regal Jubilee fast finishing second whereas the winner had a much smoother trip
Starlore even worse trip, denied a gap several times and finished sixth.

Results:

Al Shabab Storm, 2nd 4/1f - 4lb higher than when narrowly beaten at Chester last time, reverted to positive tactics this time. He appeared to travel well in front, but hung badly away to his left inside the last furlong and threw it away. He clearly has the ability to win a big pot like this, but the performance does leave him with questions to answer. Perhaps he needs to go left-handed.RP
Indivar 7th/19 20/1 - In rear, still plenty to do 2f out, kept on inside final furlong, never near to challenge (op 18/1)RP

Highly promising sort who produced a really smart handicap performance when taking his career record to 3-4 (all AW) at Newcastle on Good Friday. Can make his presence felt in this much higher grade if as effective on turf.
