I have been getting text messages for a few months from this crowd. I just ignored them as I thought they were blurb. But I've also noticed that my phone credit isn't getting me as far as it used to. On the rare occasions that I make a call I always seem to be either out or just about out of credit. I blamed son and heir who is constantly messing with the phone (apology due when I get home). I have just checked my pay as you go online call log and noticed these ###### have been charging me 2 euro every time they send me a text. Since Sunday when I got a refill they have sent me 6. €32 in the last 2 and a half months they have thieved, which would have been significantly more had I not been out of credit most of the time, God knows how much before that.

Apparently all I ever needed to do was text back STOP and it would stop - but I thought they were dodgy so didn't want to reply. I have done now.

I was on to the Phone regulator crowd and they reckon there will be no refund as I probably ticked a box when I entered a competition which legally allows them to do this. I certainly have no memory of doing this.

Can you ask Foneclub somehow to show you the details of what you 'signed up' for, Mel? The regulators sound a bit weak-kneed there, just shoving the onus of proof back onto you. Be interesting to let 'Watchdog' know and see if they've had many complaints. What a scam.

Was thinking the same thing, surely there's a burden of proof on them to show where you signed up?

Apparently I (or more likely son and heir) entered a competition on the phone which directed me/him onto a WAP page where you were supposed to click on something to see terms and conditions. I would imagine I/he just turned the phone off when the WAP page came up.

All perfectly legal it seems.

At least I know where all the credit was leaking and it has now stopped (hopefully).

That absolutely sickens me when they get away with that. Mate of mine got done for a couple of hundred on his bill phone, he had been recieving these messages all month long and deleteing them, and it wasnt until the bill arrived that he realised he was being stung. Another lad i know, when he was out of credit, the messages would just build up and wait for him, and when he put in credit, they would all arrive.

It seems I was under contract to get 3 messages every 5 days. If you are out of credit on the proposed date you get 6 the next time. That was how I noticed it - I bought €20 credit, usually enough to last me 2 or 3 months, by the time I checked my balance it was down to €13.??, and I knew noone had been messing with the phone as I'd just eaten the head off son and heir for wasting all my credit. :shy:
