Forum Horse Connections

I finally succumbed to the pleasure of ownership - well it's actually the third hair on the right hind, just below the hock....:LOL: but my mother wanted to buy me something for my birthday which was last week and I am a nightmare to buy for.

A fellow forumite had contacted me a while ago about a horse called Outmaster who had won his only point and been bought by Old Gold Racing to go to Paul Nichols and what did I think. I watched his point and saw the write up by Martin Harris (who I rate very highly) and said go for it. I even got another friend to buy into him. But by the time I thought I should also do the same, the berludy shares had all gone! Idiot me!

So I had another look through their horses and liked the look of a horse called Jamada who is with Olly Murphy. He won a bumper on his third start in Ireland before being bought by Murphy and is owned by the Mick Fitz Syndicate (through Old Gold). He has had one start over hurdles last month at Sedgefield where he finished second giving 5lbs to a mare who already had hurdling experience but they were a long way clear of the third. He is no world beater but looks like he could be a bit of fun and win the odd race so I thought, why not?

Anyway he runs tomorrow (Monday) at Plumpton in the first 1.08pm and is odds on. It's not a great race so I hope he duly obliges.....🤞
 
I got into Old Gold last year and have the end of a nostril hair in 2 horses, Swingingonthesteel and Big City Roller.
Both have won a couple of races and the cost to me has been more than covered.
It definitely makes you look at a race differently if you have a miniscule share in the horse and nothin will beat the sensation you feel when it goes and wins a race.
Swingingonthesteel is entered into a couple of races on Thursday and I can't wait to see him running again as he seems to have the potential to win races at a decent level.

It's been a while since I trained and obviously I owned some of them - when they won I probably embarassed myself rather a lot by the amount of screaming I did... :ROFLMAO: But hopefully this will be a bit of fun anyway.

Surely it is what being connected to a horse is all about !!! I know for a fact that I made a complete dick of myself when Clondaw Rigger won X3

Pity I didn't know you were on the market as we ( Whitegrass Synd) have a Mahler half sister to Cracking Rhapsody to go p2p route with a view to harrowing what Straight Home ploughed; same Townend connections for phase 1 of the adventure.
Form got a wee boost at Del Mar last night , so I'm told.

Well that was pants!! Looked good in the paddock (they obviously fancied the Gordon horse) but Jamada dropped away very tamely and Bowen made little movement on him. Maybe he's heard a noise...🤷‍♀️

The ex has just informed me that it had rained a lot at the track? Maybe just not happy on the ground although he didn't look like he obviously didn't like it.

I will report back when they do - glad I'm not a trainer any more! 😩 That awkward conversation with the owners when you don't know what's gone wrong.
 
Jamada ran like somefthing was amiss. They’re usually quite good at posting post-race updates on the Old Gold app
 
So I have watched the post-race briefings.
Sean Bowen felt something wasn't right after a circuit. He expected him to pick up and he was flat. I think he did the right thing by easing him and hopefully they will pick something up in a post race scope and/or blood test. You only have to look at Golden Ace on Saturday to see how easy it is to be fooled. She looked fantastic in the paddock and was bucking but ran like a drain. They scoped her afterwards and found an infection.
These things happen - hopefully a few weeks on the easy and he will be fine. A couple of his other horses also ran disappointingly today so perhaps there is something lurking in the yard.
 
Yes I just read that. Slightly odd?

I attended a point to point seminar a couple of weeks ago and part of it was a Veterinary section by Graham Potts who is the BHA vet. He discussed post-race heat stress and how to deal with it. Invariably it happens when there is a rapid change in temperature and it's a shock to the horse's system as they haven't acclimatised (that's why horses should really go over a week or more to hot countries to run...Breeders Cup, Melbourne Cup etc.). Although it looks worrying, he said they don't die from it (again odd as I lost a greyhound ot heat stroke but perhaps this is not the same - I need to catch up with him and quiz him more) but can recover quickly so long as you get huge amounts of water on them concentrating on their muscle masses i.e. shoulders and backside. He said although visually it looks scary, he doesn't worry about it too much.
 
Tom Lord Hogan has declared Hopeful Hero for Naas Sunday 1.20 .
A novice hurdle for 4yos that have not won more than 2 hurdles he has four rivals.
Tom reckons that it is better to give him experience with a chance of prizemoney than run him in an overcrowded schooling hurdle with no return.
Some tasty rivals here; Positive Energy, a rare Michael O'Callaghan jumper with Paul Townend booked and Our Lucky Lady, who is really interesting.
46 rated on the flat, she could well be unbeaten over hurdles but for her saddle slipping on hurdles debut when 150/1.
She made up for it last time when overturning a WPM odds on shot at Sligo.
Her sire The Irish Rover is a Ballydoyle pacemaker /cast off By No Nay Never ex a Danehill Dancer mare.
For any horse rated 46 on the flat to convert to 112 (so far) over hurdles is quite something.
I wonder if the sire could be the next Jeremy given the chance, especially with the Danehill Dancer connection.
Wishing for a safe return and some prizemoney , he could surprise us though ground is a worry.
 
Good luck, Eddie. It makes sense to run in this race; it always cuts up. The conditions probably need to change going forward - it seems a long time since the likes of Teahupoo won it.
On a line through Jacko Star, he doesn't have a tremendous amount to find with Positive Energy, who disappointed 2nd time out.
 
The green keeper at my local golf courses had a share of a horse with Keith dalgleish. Loved being involved and a day at the racing. Can't remember the name of the horse but it was constantly second or third. Said the guys made a few bob backing it ew. Guy at my sons father and son camp owned an ear of a horse and always came over superior as he had a wee bit of a horse. Turns out his racing knowledge was pretty low but I didn't humiliate him in front of the dads but made sure that he knew that just because you are a wee part owner doesn't justify being a twat.
 
Going eventually soft to heavy which would not have helped his jumping.
Got excited again when he closed up into straight but the ground and the hill took their tool.
Update from Tom; the straight had been watered during the summer so was heavier than the rest of the course, hence the funny head carriage and lack of late stamina.
Jockey reported that the horse had no problem on the naturally soft ground so we may not heard the last of him yet.
Winner has a Beneficial/King's Ride/Ragapan/Prince Hansel dam line which gives the mixture of speed, stamina , jumping ability, guts and soundness which every jumper has to possess in their armoury.
Far Hills 2027 American Grand National is the notional long term target, in my imagination at least.
Crowd funding may begin in the summer with hairs, mane plaits etc on sale.
I promise not to sell more than 300% of the horse, though that of course is subject to change .

Thanks Eddie. She was supposed to be going to Cheltenham for the bumper on Saturday but Patrick forgot to make the entry. Some of us were disappointed but I think he did us and the horse a favour, because travelling her to England in this weather wouldn't have been ideal. She'll be the outsider of Willie's trio in Sunday's race, if it goes ahead, but we're told she's in good heart.
