Galway 2018

Forfeit stage on Thursday. The Hurdle changes shape completely if Wicklow Brave comes out.

If Willie will withdraw all his others and JP does the same, we'd just about get a run with Shanning.

'Yielding (NH) and Soft (Flat) following 11mm of rain overnight. Further 2-3mm of racing expected prior to racing and turning dry and breezy for racing later. A further 3-4mm of rain forecast on Tuesday morning and turning dry and breezy for racing tomorrow.'

It will be interesting to see how the going affects running plans.

Today it would be very surprising if they aren't pulling out all the stops to give Ruby a winner first race back. Patrick is mad keen to win the QR race but the price is criminal.

I'll be watching out for Weld's early runners. His weren't right last year but this meeting remains a top priority.

That Viking Hoard ran like it had been got at . Now we know why Barry wasn't on the JP horses.

Maybe but she looked not 100% tuned up in the paddock - fit but not mid March fit !

What a charming course Galway is and what a mixed crowd no sign of that curse of English racecourses the pissed up group of lads in suits

It's very rare these days for me to have a bet at Galway but I got a tracker alert and couldn't not back it.

Saltonstall was my main bet in the Hunt Cup but nothing went right for him. He did too much near the pace on the unfavoured far side. Buick reported after the race that the horse didn't let himself down on the ground but he still did by far the best of the pace-chasers over there. The worry this evening is that this might not be a serious target. I reckon if it is he wins but I'm not sure Whelan would be up if they were serious about this race. His only other entry is a less valuable G3 and I reckon he's at least up to that level. As I say, I can't not back him just in case he is trying so took some 8/1.

To use a non meteorological expression it is piddling in Galway at present and has been all morning. Suppose to clear up in the evening though
