Gambling Stables

Oh I don't like the race Flame, Carroll has two in it. I'm going to go for another yard that has had a nibble, Rae Guest, this will just be a fiver on Melodromatica. I'm happy with the day....just. I hope one of us wins, on recent form it will be you:cool:

Thanks, I won a little, not a lot. Well done with your Varian horses. Done well to win, after missing the break and coming via Birmingham, but horses for courses and horses for grades and all that. You can give away ground, but you can't give away class and in this class, he is simply a better horse than the opposition. Weight doesn't stop horses, the better grade of race does. As Mr Pipe always liked to say, "Keep yourself in the best company, and your horses in the worse".

That's why I always liked this place, it has some of the most knowledgeable people in racing on it, and most are happy to speak freely, it's a valuable asset of a site, it always has been.

Gone for Eytheyat in the 7.30 over Baldings rose light. Boughey is an an up and comer comparatively and when he goes for it, gets the win loads of times. Lots of support for this one.

These aren't going well at the moment, just want a good day every now and then to pull it back. I'll have a go on Ernies Valentine later.

Gambling Stables? For starters very few trainers unless they are stone mad or have a no lose account witha big bookie gamble with their own money.

The money comes mainly from faces. Having been one in the past trust me I know what I am talking about.

My best friend was a NH jockey and a trainer. Quite simply if the owner was not a punter and the horse was agood thing he would tell me and likely no one else. I would have a few grand on and look after him when they won.

If the owners were punters I might still know but the rule was SP only as his rule was you don't stand on another mans toes.

The top and bottom of it is that it is Faces than get yards a gambling reputation. The more faces they jockey and trainer have the worst rep the yard has for gambling.

Well now you have trashed the whole idea of following money chap, and bear in mind I have already said "gambling stables" may well have been a misnomer. I have done already with this now for good, I won't be back here, life is too short. Do you know something Tanlic? I doubt you will ever change on a forum. You just sh1t on anything you don't like. I actually thought I might like to come back on here but whilst people like you just sh1t on stuff, I just can't be arsed. I just don't need the hassle, I just don't care enough now chap, seriously. I'll leave you to post your genius and interesting posts, I certainly ain't bothered any more. People like you will eventually put many people off posting. You either need a shrink or need to stop posting. I won't have such as you trying to f*ck me over lad, you are neither smart enough or bother me enough. I am quiet happy not taking part, I have been so much happier without such as your negativity entering my thought process. Get help lad, there is something seriously wrong with you.

Geezus H what ????. Every word I wrote is a true honest opinion based on my own experience and the furthest thing on my mind was you. To be honest I read the heading and posted what I know to be the case and I wasn't even discussing the matter with you.

Sad .

As soon as someone reads that, that knows anything about racing, is ....oh fook.. another gambling stable post. So many words have been written about this. Firstly, any smaller trainer starting out has to be good at this, or they don't get off step one on the ladder. There are exceptions to this, a trainer who has worked for a big trainer and has good horses handed him/her. Most stables are **** at it overall once they get going, they don't need to be once the owners are coming in.

Imagine you have a small stable, or even a middle level one, you send one out, everyone thinks it will win in that stable, then it gets beat. I will bet now that an upcoming stable is good at this more than an established one, purely because they are unknown, and so have that market edge. The really smart trainers are those that once they get past the unknown bit edge, they still deliver when the money is down. Obviously no trainer can do that 100% of the time, so we have to spot when it happens above the average level. Eighteen months ago I used 3 criteria to judge if a stable had a gamble or drifter, just what happened with them. Clearly if a stable had horses winning when drifting, there is an issue there of not knowing what they have or not caring. I used the Horseracebase data base to try and work this out, not easy. I can't even remember now how I started the spread sheet, it was basically.... success when drifting, success when shortening. So I got a rating for every trainer. Then in real time over 18 months, if a trainer I thought knew what he had, had a runner and it was a shorterner, I would see how it ran, then update or down grade him/her on the spreadsheet. Over that period of time I found that certain trainers were really good at knowing their horses when the money was down. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it was s***. But something I did spot, the trainer's horses that the market said were fancied, and they were good at it, found that extra in the final furlong, even if they looked beat. This isn't a ..this will win..thread, there is no such thing when looking at this type of angle, but I think I can highlight horses each day, that when fancied, will be trying hard to win. Each day I will post horses I think are fancied by trainers who are above average at winning when they shorten. The issue then is, well if the money has gone on, where is the value? The only way round that for me is to have doubles and trebles on the day. There is no stable that has two or three horses they know will win, the whole idea as a punter is to spot the stables that could tie a few together. I hope that makes sense, but am open to any comment. I have been at this a while now, good results, but it isn't an area I know a lot about, (no stop watches Grass:D). I'd love some input from anyone who thinks I am off target here. I would like Slims view. He will probably say..wtf are you on about? Then again, Slim won't read it, he hates long posts:D

I really don't see where my post contradicts what you wrote. My memory goes back to 2 trainers who were gamblers who set up more than a few touches. Firstly Norman Galgetty who my old pal Donal Nolan intruduced me too, He was a permit holder and had several very good horses like Braw Lad and and Davy Blake he landed touches with. The next one was Charlotte Postlethwaite who was also a permit holder and had two very good horses in Tarqa and Abandon Warrior the latter winning 4 races for her, He was always backed when he won band never when he lost. However compared to the gamble landed on Tarqa in the Grove Novices’ Hurdle on March 7th 1983 from 33/1 to 7/2 ridden by the late Tony Charlton it was a drop in the ocean There's a lot more to the story and about how they got so much money on I won't go into but Charlotte and her Husband Ronnie moved to train in the the south of France shortly after. So yes the small yards can pull some nice strokes and often do but do you ever hear of Nicky Henderson or Paul Nicholls having a large bet? You can bet you backside when an owner of there's lands a touch they are well looked after. Same with stable staff ..most owners will turn up after a win with handfuls of fivers for the lads.

Unfortunately nowadays there are so many false favs put up it's hard to follow the money and if a small yard do have a touch most won't have 10k on from 20/1 to 4/1 and average 6/1 to make 60k they'll have 2 or 300 in small bets on the machine at 50 to 20 and no one will be any the wiser. Take for example Storm Control today at Chetenham he's altrady been backed to take over 45K if he wins for just over 1K. I often wonder when a 350/1 shot on the machine wins and theres been 400 quid for it has someone plotted one?

So get a life and stop being a twat I assure you I have nothing against you.

Tanlic. I am not remotely interested in a few anecdotes you have from 1983. I have been reading your stuff on here over the past year, bearing in mind I haven't posted anything for 4 years. I have often thought, crikey, if I had posted some of the stuff you have against posters on here I would have been banned. You have got away with so much sh1t against people on here it is unreal. You need calling out chap, you try to suffocate people with your bullying attitude. It is like on this thread, no one is trying to suggest it is gambling nirvana, of course it isn't, it is just throwing an angle out there. On a forum I want people to throw stuff out, without fear of ridicule. You though aren't like that are you? I'm telling you now, and it makes fook all difference to me believe me, I'd be changing tack if I was you. You fcuk people off with your attitude, and you fvck a lot off on here from what I have read for a good while. You have always had something against me, and you also have something against a few on here, you just can't admit it You have to be number one chap don't you? well, on here you aren't by some way. All I will say to you is stop lording it, stop the snidey digs, you are just a "look at me" type in reality. I had every intention of just throwing a few things out there now, I'm not that bothered about racing now as I used to be, it is take it or leave it for me now but you just can't help throwing your weight about can you? Well, these days, I can't be arsed with such as you, life is too short. Not having a go at you at all, just telling you how you come across, it ain't pretty chap. All the best to you.

To be fair EC21 this post from Tanlic wasn't offensive to anyone.

Looks as though Tanlic is just debating the notion or concept of gambling stables with you on this one.

If you are considering leaving the forum over this then I think you are being over sensative?
