Gigginstown

I imagine he was on the list to go before end of march but his two grand national results put him out of relegation zone.
His Gold Cup win with War of Attrition was the start of the juggernaut of course so maybe his future was safe anyway.

They may not go about it gently and you could ask whether it's really right to run what is essentially a hobby as a business but I think fair enough. Loathe him or hate him, oléary is no mug and is rightly demanding

What I do find weird is having all your horses with one trainer. Ricci Mullins . That's bonkers Imo. Regardless of the current success you always have to have "if you don't fcking like it we will see what Nichols makes of him then" up your sleeve don't you?

I take your point Clive but i'm guessing Ricci's thoughts are who can supply me with the best horses and on that basis it's Mullins - bear in mind they haven't paid a fortune for a good % of their horses

If I had a load of horses I'd spread them around personally because it'd be more fun, but I'm pretty sure Ricci is happy with the results of what he's doing.

They have 5 with Henry at the minute

He has overachieved with Identity Thief to date, so possibly a good chance he might get a good one of them again this summer

I think you can count the horses that have moved from Mullins and improved on the fingers of one foot.

Hmmm, not sure I see that as a good thing. Re: Ricci, he already has horses with Henderson - had a winner at Bangor (I think) not that long ago, in partnership with Buckley, so not all his eggs are quite in one basket. As for how little he spends on horses, that always makes me smile - the cracking tales about the cheap success stories are good TV aren't they?

Welcome Jane. My point was that, if Mullins can't get the best out of your horse, it's unlikely that anyone else can. I know from experience that he moves them on quick enough if he doesn't think they will make the grade and the big owners appreciate that and are happy to cut their losses. I'd have thought that Ricci spends less per horse than most of the other big owners.

Thank you Archie. I suppose the question I would ask is how many fit young horses, with potential, leave Mullins (or any big yard)? Some yards sell on horses on a regular basis, to self-finance, and rely on them doing well elsewhere to keep going; others want the end product - I think we are probably saying the same thing. I don't agree at all, though, that Ricci spends less than other owners. Perhaps more discreetly. They buy privately out the of pointing field, some of which never make the grade, and he must have a colossal amount of horses from all price ranges. If the cheaper ones are doing better, perhaps that is telling him something about his advisors!

The French bloodstock agent who sources Mullins French imports (rather well) works exclusively for Mullins doesn't he?

They shifted a fair whack of their unwanted equine performers yesterday

For the large part buying a previous Gigi inmate would seem like buying a second handcar with some very high mileage
