Lee going to ride full-time on flat: Grand National-winning jockey Graham Lee is to ride full-time on the Flat. bit.ly/Ha6CTC

If you had a job that involved you being followed about by an ambulance while you worked you might be entitled to call him a big girls blouse! He has had several horrendous injuries and this is probably the only way he could reliably continue his career for several more years. The next big slap he got over jumps would probably have ended it, and this way he can continue to earn a living for a long while yet. How old was Lester Piggott when he retired?

cjboy - i know the man. He's ridden for us on many occasions, and won the Northumberland National for us with some inspired riding. I'm glad he's taking the easy route to retirement. But he's a loss to NH racing, and i just wonder if he'd have made the same decision if he'd been with a winning yard recently.

I'm not sure it's such an easy option. He's a bit old to be making the switch because there's a different skill set required, but I'll be delighted for him if it works out.

Chicken/Egg?

There are fewer injuries, if that's what you mean, but reflexes and decision making have to be a lot sharper.

Good luck to him-Jim Crowley made a success of it.I'm sure all Howard Johnsons ex stable jockeys are cursed-they all seem to be very unhappy.

That thought occurred to me when I read the piece. Brian Hughes seemed to be the only rider who did not fall out with him.

Given how often he's been bashed up, and how easy it seems he'll do the weight, amazed he's not made the switch before.

Another ex Johnson horse sluiced up today... Any word of Richard Johnfon putting Tom Scu on his hole in that race?

Ladbrokes are going 6/4 against Graham Lee getting 50 winners, flat and aw, by 10 November.

I hadn't realised he had ridden on the flat as an apprentice before going over jumps. He had 36 rides on the flat in 1996 (no winners though), most of them for Mary Reveley.

On the other hand he is out injured at present with a dislocated hip and Dr Turner of the BHA reckons it will be the last week of this month before he's ready to resume.

I think it will be a tall order for him to reach 50 flat winners but I met the man once upon a time and liked him, so I hope I'm wrong.

On the other hand

Graham Lee is off the mark with winners on both the Thursday and Friday of Musselburgh's two day meeting. Both winners were for Jim Goldie, who's not a bad trainer to have supporting you.

Could end up on some of our flat runners if available as I know Fordy has long since admired him and I see has booked him for Ministerofinterior on Tuesday should he run.
