All of the above clips from back in the long ago. From dead or nearly-dead git'rists. Dated and tired old dad-Rock, dinosaur-Rock.
(Not a single "squealie" or pinch harmonic to be heard amongst that lot --'course such techniques had yet to be invented way back then).

Do you fella's ever listen to modern music, or are yiz permanently stuck in some time-warp stone age? :ninja:

i just prefer listening to musicians:)...a 5 year old can shred a guitar..playing with feeling is the sign of a real musician

i listen to lots of recent stuff..problem is..most of what i hear is soulless shredding..so I don't get into it.

name me one rock guitarist better than Hendrix?

Funny dat. My dear ol' Mum used to say the exact same thing 45 years ago about the Beatles whilst she was listening to the Glenn Miller Orchestra !

the problem you have is that when they had a poll of best bands in the 60's & 70's..it wasn't Glenn Miller coming out top...but relatively for you it now is..because as that poll shows..Glenn Miller from my era still tops your bands;)

yes..i bet you had be over 50 to vote..give over..most people that vote in polls are young people

you haven't told me who these new great are either..which one is better Hendrix etc

the thread title asks for great guitar solos..to me it don't matter when they are played..then again it might do if all my music was nowhere near as good as what was made 40 years ago. Thats the problem really..all this "dad rock" labelling was invented by people who realised that modern music was never going to hit the heights that the originators of the genres had done..a bit o jealousy really;)

lets be knowing these new greats..i'll give them a listen

I'm not given to knocking Jimi; he deserves his place in the pantheon of the greats.
and..which rock guitarist from last 30 years lets say is better than Hendrix?

Loads of them. Loads of them with better technique, skill, and more speed than Jimi. Dunno where to start,
But maybe Joes Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci et al to be going on with.

this is where we differ..speed of play isn't being a musician for me..lots of those you name there are old anyway.

Jimi is out on his own even now..imo...at the time...he was in another dimension completely

Some guitarists are brilliant technicians..but have no emotion..it leaves me cold..Gary Moore is a borderline one for me..i have lots of his stuff..but rarely listen to him..Joe Bonamassa is similar..a stunning player..but the emotion just isn't there.

its all personal taste..but that period from 65-75 is timeless for me..and i don't think the forward moves made in that period have been beaten..just my opinion

Technique and skill is 10% of what it takes. I dislike rock music and guitar solos are horrendous listening most of the time

Less is more in music. Beatles were a prime example. In fairness i believe Clapton understood that and can really get the soul. Have admired some hendrix too

Possibly the most beautiful piece of classical music is Mozarts Clarinet concerto.

It is disarmingly simple but the key is

"every amateur believes they can play it and every professional despairs of doing it justice"

ome guitarists are brilliant technicians..but have no emotion..i

Very true. Same in jazz and classical. Also there were countless singers with greater range and technique than Billie Holiday but couldnt be mentioned in the same continent let alone same room

Jimi had more in common with John Coltrane than rock musicians
