Irish Derby

I agree Jinny; I thought Frankie had stolen it and his horse kept going further away from the third right to the line.
Wm Buick was that bit away form the lead so has to have some engine to haul him in.
I do hope they meet again .
High Definition is a big gander of a horse that might need another year to come to anything.
Kevin Manning said the going was too fast for MacSwiney, though he possibly looked overtrained; time will tell.

Thought the second ran around a bit when chasing down Frankie and won more cosily than the winning margin.

Just watched the replay, and still maintain that Frankie screwed up. Went flat out for home 3 out, which wasn't at all necessary given how he was travelling, and paid the price at the end of the race.

I've no real issue with the argument. The only thing that I would say that the better finishing furlongs from HL might not have been pronounced had Frankie not kicked on so early, but HL obviously wouldn't have been starting from as far behind. An even pace from both horses (and jockeys) from 3f out still has HL winning, IMO.

Hurricane Lane has done extremely well to get up. Buick found himself shuffled back from a decent position. To compound it the pace clearly steadied as they have finished fast. So Dettori kicking with Buick further back than ideal looked a winning move. Buick would have been sick had he not got up.
That said, when you get nailed late on then the question will be asked.
