Jockey News

Don't know if it's been mentioned anywhere else but the lad Kitts has been banned for nine years.

I have no issues with the length of the ban but the consistency of discipline.

Plenty other jockeys ride non-triers that are pretty obvious and the stewards barely look.

I can think of plenty of 'top' jockeys who should have got more than nine years for making sure one didn't win.

(The link to the RP article was purely to annoy Slim.)

By the way, what does the ban actually involve?

Is it non-involvement in any racing operation/organisation, not being allowed into racecourses (how do you enforce that?), not being allowed to bet, visit yards?

Exclusion orders are issued by an independent disciplinary officer "in instances where a person's presence on premises licensed by the BHA, or association with racing's participants, is undesirable in the interests of racing based on their conduct".

Under the ban, Barnes is also not allowed to attend other racing premises, such as training yards, or associate with people involved in the sport under licence, including jockeys and trainers.

( This is something I found on the BBC website dated 22/3/2024 about the footballer Ashley Barnes who featured in this case at an earlier stage. There may be a few additional security checks for somebody wishing to bet online who has been "excluded". )
