Kauto Star retired

good to see him retired

top class horse
able to win 2 Gold Cups not being suited by the course

At Kmp a machine

and a horse able to win a Tingle Creek and a Gold Cup

Nicholls amazing with him and Ruby was great on him

similar to Frankel in ability to perform many times in very high figures

will be missed

Thanks for the memories Kauto. Horse of a lifetime. I'll never forget being at Chelters for his second GC. Best atmosphere I have ever experienced at a sporting event. Hope he has a long and happy retirement.

I am kind of glad that they're not taking any chances but will miss him!
Happy retirement old boy! You've more than earned it!

The best news and I hope he has a long, happy and thoroughly spoilt retirement.

Echo all that. We are lucky to witness a Grade 1 champion at all distances from 2 to 31/4 miles. That he could make the mistakes he did without affecting his momentum shows what power and attitude he had. A monster.

A great, great horse. So nimble on his feet when making a ricket of a fence.
Really glad to have been able to see him race. Really happy he has made it out in one piece. Hope he has years of happy retirement.

We could be waiting a long time to see the next Kauto Star, I hope I'll still be around to see it.

Last year's King George is probably as hat-stand as I'ver ever been at the end of a race. Most of my family thought I was having a seizure when Kauto jumped two-out.

As EC says, it's been a privilege to watch his career, and some of his performances will live long in the memory; my personal faves being the aforementioned King George, his Boxing Day demolition of the field two years earlier, and his first Betfair Chase; revealing - probably for the first time - what a seriously good racehorse he was going to be, as he waltzed past Beefy.

He had everything you could want; consistency, courage, class, versatility.....plus certain jumping idiosyncracies that always kept you on your toes resulting in maximum rush every time he ran.

He is an absolute legend, and I will police his legacy very carefully, lest any Internet fish-wives bring it into question by using the word "Denman" in the same sentence.....unless they also include the words "this far back" too.

Really chuffed connections have taken this decision. A long and comfortable retirement has rarely been better-earned.

I vividly remember the day he won the Old Roan as I was at Towcester and was telling everyone who would listen that evens was a gift. I always thought he would be a good one from that point on but I never expected him to do what he did. My only low point was turning up for him to win his fifth KG only for him to get turned over then somehow win it again the following year. That ability to bounce back is what truly set him apart; he had an unrivalled constitution.

A true legend of our times. Happy retirement old boy.

I still can't quite believe how he held Imperial Commander in the Betfair (and deprived me of enough winnings to buy a new car by the space of about 2 millimetres LOL)

But you have to recognise a truly great racehorse. One in a million.

Great news, think its the right decision for him although Kempton at Christmas won't be the same.

Have a long and happy retirement Kauto

Great post. Top horse. Had it all

Been lucky enough to have seen him a good few times live but the two kgvs at kempton were the most memorable occasions i have experienced in racing. Should also be remembered how superbly he was handled too from racing him enterprisingly and relatively frequently during one season in particular to prolonging his career beyond most expectations
