Least Funny "comedian"

I am absolutely not a prude, but the bloke who used to play Barry on East Enders was given a spot, and very clunky the thing was too, to introduce someone I'd never heard of. They mentioned David Blaine, who the other bloke was trying, poorly, to parody, and fat 'Barry' said DB was 'a c**t', at which the audience laughed heartily. What - honestly - is the least bit funny about that? It isn't a witty observation on David Blaine, and as fat 'Barry' isn't the least bit funny himself, it was just the sort of thing any bloke could've said in a pub. If that's the sad level of British humour now, it's sunk beyond the sewer. And I suppose now we'll have to put up with hearing that word used all the time, everywhere, the same as the F word now peppers every second sentence of some people's conversations. (Rants for several more minutes, before resorting to tea-making.)

I would dare most of the JD haters on here not to laugh once at one of his live shows.... and im not a fan, but i know i would

WRONG WRONG WRONG

Swearing used well is superb...

Billy Connolly times it just right. The great Richard Prior the same. As BC said about RP there was a terrific rhyhtmn about his use of motherf.....

Badly used it sounds like ex public schoolboy uni types trying to be "lads".

Its all about timing.....

She'll have heard plenty of it as she's grown up - probably more than I did and I went to an all-boys' school. It doesn't mean it's OK for me to allow her to be exposed unnecessarily to more of it when I'm in a position to do something about it, like switch to another channel. I'd hate to be considered a prude, but I still don't even like the idea of her watching Friends .

Billy Connolly can be very funny, even when he swears but I reckon he's been overdoing it for a number of years now. It just lacks class.

I think a lot of the guys' shows are very funny in parts, less in others. I haven't seen any live comedy shows, but I enjoyed a lot of Billy Connolly's until he began to look like a parody of himself, such was the high level of effing, rather than really funny stuff. A lot of his was pretty foul, but the way it was told made it hilarious.

I remember one of his stories: a municipal chap being taken on a tour of the town's sewers. There's a ripe description of the products floating by, and then the sewer worker turns to the visitor and says, "You'll have to excuse me now, but here's my lunch." The man looks round incredulously, but can only see more floating poo. "Really?" he queries, "how do you know?" "Well," says the sewer operative, "see that big jobbie coming down over there?" "Er, yes, yes, I see it," says the bloke. "Well, that's from the wife, and she's tied the sandwiches to it." It's a foul joke, but the way it was told made it quite hilarious - the mental image is in the 'eeeuccch' category, but also almost believable!

Taking the mickey out of yourself, pricking the balloons of bloated, self-important, arrogant, nasty, and wilfully stupid people is fair game. Just swearing inanely isn't witty, but a well-placed and well-timed bit of rudery can add to the spice of a good story or joke.

:D I hadn't heard that one!

I remember the one he told about the public toilet attendant being interviewed. "You wouldn't believe the things that go on in these toilets," he said. "Two and three gays in the one cubicle at the one time, junkies shooting up, jakies drinking their Buckfast... if someone comes in for a shite it's like a breath of fresh air!"

  Love it! That's the sort of thing I mean, DO - it's no problem to employ a swear word in a comedy context like that.

Two cracking jokes, Connolly has tended to overdo the swearing in recent years, but he's still a very funny man.

As for the unfunniest comedian, I tend to forget their names if they're that bad.

I agree that the worst are the ones who just eff and blind to show off, without any humorous ingredients.

If it's not funny then it's just embarrassing and offensive.

Friends?! It's shown daily at 5pm! What, pray tell, is in the slightest bit rude or offensive in Friends? I'd say it's the complete opposite!

Yes, that's what made it seem completely unrealistic to me, Shadz! Young people, living, loving, clubbing and pubbing together, and no swearing? Ridiculous!

I saw a show about six young single psychoanalysts living in a loft apartment in Vienna trying to work it all out. I think it was called "Freuds," but I can't be sure.

Of course, they all wanted to **** their mothers.

I caught Borat yesterday on This Morning - I'd guess there were around 20 TVs switched over to it in the office and it had everyone on the floor in stitches. A lot of "she is my sister" quotes were forthcoming for the rest of the day too! Clever and very amusing.

I'm not a Jim Davidson fan either, I find several others unfunny as well - Joe Pasquale, Michael Barrymore, Les Dennis et al. I love Billy Connolly though, his observational humour is brilliant - "pssst, Gladys!!" gets me every time, one of his best sketches. I'm not so sure what can be found offensive about him either!

FFS!!! Have you read any Freud? [/b][/quote]
I find his Racing Post columns very boring.

I've only just noticed the replies on this thread and think I've answered them elsewhere.

I find Borat hugely offensive and unfunny.

Billy Connolly too.
My mistake then - to me this read as calling Billy Connolly hugely offensive and unfunny rather than crap.

Michael Barrymore has never laid claim to being a comedian has he?
Ive seen him doing his stand up show years ago, which was for the whole family, he was excellent and even got the kids up on stage.

ALWRIGHT.

Gets you every time, classic.
