Lockinge Stakes

Visually impressive and got Hughes out of what might have been a very embarrassing situation.

However, with Zacinto running dreadfully, a 7f specialist getting very close and others coming back from layoffs and switches of yard, etc, I'm not sure the winner did any more than in previous races. It was probably no more than a training gallop. He just looked better at doing it.

I'm very glad I decided just to watch it. I'd have been cursing Hughes all over the shop if I'd backed the fav.

For covering up the horse and producing him inside the final furlong to win with plenty in hand?

think DO means that Hughes nearly got caught out trying to showboat - a good job the horse is really good - hughes watched way too many Piggott videos as a kid - and he ain't no Piggott.

What jockey is Lester Piggott? Richard Hughes is a fine jockey and gave the horse a perfect ride. His smile as he crossed said it all, cheeky.

EC1 that is what i was saying to myself watching the race , " this guy thinks he is Lester Piggott".

he thinks he is though - i've no time for him tbh - he is bad more than good over a period of time - a show off without the talent to back it up imo

Yes. Ouqba got some momentum going out of Hughes's vision but the horse was so good it got him out of trouble.

I don't mind the odd bit of showboating but if it goes mamaries skywards the jockey will get a proper roasting from the punters and a lengthy holiday from the stewards. Then all it takes is for one Betfair punter to have laid his cojones on the fav to start a police enquiry!

So Richard Hughes in a Group 1 race did not look left to see where Quqba was? That would be remarkable to say the least.

For me, Paco Boy won with as much in hand today as entitled. I see no logical reason for him to reverse form with with Rip Van Winkle from Goodwood.

Also I would factor in the chances of Rip Van Winkle being 100% with his well documented foot problems.

I think they will have Rip Van Winkle 100% come Ascot - if he turned up today I could see him improving for it but Ascot is not a "trial".

I can understand ante-post prices factoring that in, hence by Paddy Power have him favourite, but if Rip Van WInkle turns up at Ascot on the day, I'll be surprised (pleasantly so) if he isn't favourite.

By no means do I think it will be a trial. I held that view last year and was make to look stupid.

Apparently Paco Boy came back sore from Goodwood . Somehow I imagine if Goldikova wins or goes close in the Ispahan she will be sharing favouritism at least

As for RVW the Prince of Wales's looks like a penalty kick in comparison !

I don't think 9.5f will be her trip Ardross - she gets a sex allowance off both Rip and Paco Boy and I'd find it hard to see either of them being good enough to win two Breeders Cup Miles.

Would be Goldikova all the way for me provided those prices Gearoid quoted are available on the day.
