Looking ahead to the NH season 2015/2016 proper

I like the sound of that :)
I can just imagine Coneygree fending off all comers off a big weight in the style of the tank!

Bit early for Willie to be getting the heavy artillery out I would have thought. Looks to have a serious engine mind, albeit not been properly tested so far. Ruby's hardly had to ask him to get out of neutral to land his first couple.

Not sure where he'll go as WM's got Townshend, Min and Yorkhill in the breach too.

Powers unimpressed yesterday which might be telling. Think they were the only firm not to clip him for the Supreme.

The capricious Renneti entered for the 2m Hurdle at Listowel on Sunday.

Intrigued by this horse.

He may be more likely to revert to the flat at Leopardstown on the Saturday though - for which he's also entered - as there's a good chance he'd need to go well in that to get into the Ces.

My copy of Mark Howard's One Jump Ahead arrived yesterday and will keep me out of trouble for the next week or so. Great value at under £10 and is highly recommended

Not quite a stable tour so won't start a new thread yet.

snippets from NJH open day

Lami serge - novice chasing

volnay de Thaix novice chasing

Peace and co to start against his own age group

no decision made on MTOY

Call the Cops and Beat That staying novice chasers

Anyone free this weekend with a bit of cash could do worse than head to Merano for Italian Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup races.
Thousand Stars runs in the former and Hurricane Fly will parade there.
A chance to see the Fly one more time for the "Doubting Thomases"

Which of Mullins bumper horses of last year is he talking up?

Fire In Soul - 4yr old owned by Giggi cost €200k
Sharps Choice - for Supreme Racing

Ricci Horses:
Brahma Bull - bought at the Derby sale
Some Neck - from the Goffs sale

Let me know if you want anything else... I'm sure Mark won't mind!

Even I couldn't justify a trip to Merano to see The Fly parade, Eddie - though I did give it a little bit of thought. Will console myself with the fact I've seen him race in England, Ireland and France - and that I can hope to see him parade before the major Hurdle races on those shores for many a year to come.

It's the first Jumps season since 2008-2009 where I've not had the gut-wrenching anticipation associated with Hurricane Fly's return to the track, and I'm not sure quite what I'll do with myself. Hopefully 'Be less of a pain in the ar*se about him' will feature highly!

I never found a way to replace Moscow when he retired.

i was down to the national stud to see him but he had no interest in me. Kicking king was a friendly old bugger mind.

flemenstar in his novice year was the closest I was to getting Moscow fever.

Few snippets from Henderson RP interview today

Bobs Worth 'looks amazing' and is likely to be aimed at the Hennessy Gold Cup in November.

Sprinter Sacre 'looks like a bull' and will be kept to two miles again this season.

L'Ami Serge is going Novice Chasing this season. He was also found to have a trapped epiglottis after his 4th in the Supreme Novices Hurdle

No decision has been made about My Tent Or Yours who could still go chasing or go for the Champion Hurdle this season.

Peace And Co will run in some four-year-old hurdles before the Champion Hurdle while Hargam is also being aimed at the Champion Hurdle.

Lifted from the Sporting Life. Not much of a story, but another bumper name to note

It will be up to the young stars to help fill the void left by the retirement of the 22-times Grade One winner Hurricane Fly.His record-breaking triumphs included two Champion Hurdles in 2011 and 2013, but this year's renewal was won by stablemate Faugheen.
He is owned by Rich Ricci, who also has Douvan, impressive winner of the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, among his talented team of jumpers.
But whether he goes novice chasing straight away is one of the many subjects yet to be discussed by trainer and owner.
"Douvan has put on a bit of condition. He was always very rakish looking," Mullins told At The Races.
"Faugheen has tremendous condition. He had nice condition last year, but he is stronger again this year.
"They have all done well over the summer. I just want the weather to break before we start upping them to really fast work.
"We haven't discussed anything yet. There will be a pow-wow one of these days and we will see what will happen.
"I don't really know which way Richard (Rich Ricci, owner) is thinking, but we will get round the table at some stage and go through them all."
Asked to name one young horse to watch out for, Mullins chose Admiral Chief, a four-year-old gelding by Presenting, owned by Gigginstown house Stud.
"There is a nice horse catching my eye every morning called Admiral Chief, he's a Gigginstown bumper horse," he said.
"He is a chaser down the line but he covers a lot of ground, so let's hope Michael O'Leary wasn't planning a big gamble on him!"

Where Bobs Worth, Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig are concerned take everything NJH says at these stable tours with a pich of salt.

More chance of Arkle making a comeback than Bob's Worth imo.

Sprinter Sacre? would be great to see, but realistically, there wasn't even a hint he had retained the astonishingly high cruising speed on his comeback races last season.
He looked a shadow of his old self and I would believe that Jesus walked on water if he were to come back to his best.

Simonsig: He's the most likely of the 3 to be winning races again but there was a bit of a hint before his leg trouble he might not be as good as once thought.

If SS hadn't had his problems a Tingle Creek vs UDS would have been something to savour.

Henderson does a pretty-mean impression of Mark Pitman/Monsignor, when he prattles-on about Simonsig this time each year.
