Is there a better bred animal around in training? By Giant's Causeway out of the supermare Better Than Honour (sold for $14.5 million last year) who has produced Rags To Riches, Jazil and Casino Drive with the likes of Peeping Fawn and co in the family.

Yet poor their half sibling Man Of Iron is off to Dundalk tomorrow night. He trailed in virtually last behind Rip Van Winkle at The Curragh on his only start and is abandoned by Murtagh in preference to Wachman's (useful) gelding Pirate Ship.

Breeding does not count for everything so its seems....

Certainly well bred Galileo but "always towards the rear" and the jockey booking says it all, will be interesting to see how he does at Dundalk. I think the sport would be boring if breeding was so simple but it’s such a complex and interesting segment of Racing that at times defies the laws of physics but every horse interprets it own mentality in my opinion despite the bloodlines which are little stories in their own right with hundreds of bits of information that can be withdrawn and as they say don’t judge a book by its cover.

I'd say it will be possible to lay Pirate Ship at under 1/2 tonight.Obviously his connections must be respcted but he was weak in the maket on his last run and is a maiden running on the all weather for the first time.

Pirate Ship should have no problem with the surface looking at the breeding

looks the winner of this race 80 times out of 100, I wouldn't want to be laying unless it goes below 1.2.

1.46 is a good price imo.

Certainly not a 1-5 shot.Hard to know which way he will go on betfair-currently 1.59 but the last 5 minutes tell a lot in Ireland.

Putting it into context that is my second winning day since the Thursday of Cheltenham.I was so disillusioned that I have started doing the lottery and trying to win the million freeroll on betfair poker.

aye

well nice for you to win then..I hate them type of runs..done well lately mesen so can't complain..it won't last though..especially if I keep betting in Ireland :)

I daren't play in the 8.55 race..but surely Imco Spirit is the bet..Coolcullen Times drops way back in trip and is right up the weights...signal fire just franked Imco's form

Imco looks strong...now if this race weren't in Ireland

Absolutely not - I worked in a yard where we had a horse by Generous out of Knight's Baroness, winner of the Irish Oaks and dam of horses such as Wales, Riyadian and Essex. This gelding was useless though - as well as being an utter shitbag - and could only scrape two wins in amateur rider handicaps at [oops, make that!] Carlisle.

My ex boss was part of a syndicate that owned a half brother to an Arc winner.Couple of quiet runs, then a great second on a big race day when strongly fancied each way.Turned out 10 days later on heavy ground and an unsuitable track when a short priced fav-all the syndicate were starting to believe the dream by then.Disappointed a couple of times when fancied before winning at a festival (was 33/1 in the morning).
Horse ended up winning a couple of races -I think if they had concentrated on the joys of ownership and days out it would have meant more to them.Unfortunately it was at the height of the celtic tiger and they wanted a Cheltenham festival winner or failing that to bring off a massive coup.

A trainer friend of mine said that the biggest part of his job was knowing how to deal with disappointed people, which after all is what most trainers, bar 6 or 10, are doing on every course at every meeting. The most important part of that job is presumably managing expectations

Runs tomorrow night at Leopardstowns over a mile and on good ground.....somewhat encouraging that they have pulled him out of a couple of soft ground maidens, if they thought nothing of him they might have just let him run. Love him family and would like to see him do well.
